Joanne I heard today is a fitness junkie and work out in fitness centres several times a week. She first started this bad habit several years ago when she felt she could not keep up with her husband physically.

I wonder whether she knows my friend Ian Cheang.

Oh yes, before I forget. Joanne is organising a get together with some ex-Canon people, CanonMalaysians.

The occassion will be a buffet lunch Holiday Villa on the 24th April 2010.

So far, the names of those probably coming include Louis Lee, Jeeneze Lee, Calvyn Laang, Rocky Loot, Angela Woon, Andrew Kong, Richard Yeow, Cheng Siew Ho, Chua Hock Keat, Brenda Kua. These are still early days. A lot more should be notified and be coming in. She mentioned the dim sum buffet is RM30.00 ++.

I saw the sad news this morning in The Star obituary section as well.

Teh Meng Chee and me were never close although our offices were just next to each other when we were both in Canon in Wisma Avon. I now have lost the opportunity to get to know him better.

The little I know about Teh, I found him consistently pleasant, polite and have a sunny disposition indeed. He is one of those managers I know who made it a habit to see resellers and consumers without hesitation. I have so far never heard a negative comment on him from his staff; those that I know.

May you Rest in Peace, my brother.

I watched this movie earlier today on Astro. I can't remember watching this 30 over years ago. I guess maybe I did not!

This one came out in 1973. A classic now.

Robert Redford and Paul Newman. What can go wrong? This one was after the other classic Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

I guess it is just me. I just can't seem to get it. The Oscar winning film did not move me in any way. Despite its reputation, it is not gripping, keeping you at the edge of your seat in anticipation or anything.

Otherwise, you know this is a story of one conman being wronged with his friend/partner getting killed and he teamed up with another hero to stage a big time sting operation to get back. A big con, so it seems.

Really good looking guys, this two. Robert Redford and Paul Newman. Should it be if in my dreams I can choose to look like either one of them, I'll take Paul. Incidentally the women in this movie were pretty plain and dowdy looking. I guess to not take away the two gentlemen's attractive looks.

What prompted me to watch, naturally was the reputation of this classic movie. I watched James Dean's East of Eden a couple of months back and that too did not appear magical.

Did you remember this other movie done 20 years later starring Robert Redford and Demi Moore. Demi Moore was so beautiful in this movie. Indecent Proposal.

Here billionaire Robert's character offered husband and wife, Demi's character USD1 million for a night with the wife.

I guess today Ashton Kutcher sees Demi as I saw her in 1993.

In the Star newspaper yesterday, I read an interview by Wong Chun Wai with the great Stephen Hawking.

The answer to this question fascinated me somewhat.

You are a man of science. Is there room for God?

If there is, can it only happen when you can caught? I can't get close enough to Tiger Woods and Ashley Cole to check.

Wikipedia says "Sexual addiction refers to a phenomenon in which individuals report being unable to manage their sexual behavior. It has also been called "sexual dependency," and "sexual compulsivity."

So when Tiger met Joslyn James and the dozen like her, he was unable to manage his sexual behaviour.

Yeah right!

Ok now, if there is such a thing, how does rehab work. I understand they have this 14 steps or so of like detoxification. You are not supposed to have sex. Absolutely no masturbation. Its like they wean you off a drug addiction. Yah, cold turkey!

Do you know if the pharmaceutical companies are working hard in their labs to come up with a counter Viagra. Let's see, can we name it Argaiv? Looks and sounds cool.

Maybe it would be yellow in color. So like if you see a girl like this in Sungei Wang, and if you are unfortunately being afflicted with this condition, you retrieve from your pocket and pop this yellow little pill into your mouth. Then close your eyes and look retarded for 15 minutes and walla, you're okay. Of course, by now the chick would have gone. She won't be still standing like this and staring at you. The Rakyat should be made aware of the "Real Situations"

Indeed, your questions should be answered.

Indeed the Rakyat should be made aware of the "real situations". The opposition has been alleged, maybe correctly, to politicizing events and lies were told to the constituents, the people. The government warned us of not falling into deceptions by Pakatan Rakyat and their sympathizers. Well, okay. Why not do something! Tell us! Answer our questions! Erase our doubts!

Instead of explaining privately to the MPs of Australia, why not explain officially to all of us; via the existing media.

Amongst others, my facebook friends has legitimate questions and these same questions are asked over and over again. There is no way that the authorities do not know about the Rakyat's concerns. Are the questions too difficult to explain? And if they are, then something is not right!

Jullie mentioned that the 3 women caned were supposed to be for adultery. Then why aren't the men being punished as well?

Sean mentioned that sex outside the sanctity of marriage and sodomy can't be as serious as corruption. Why are the courts and the government not concentrating on the really important stuff and waste the courts' time and the rakyat's money. And what kind of outdated laws do we have.

Ivan mentioned that what motives can the 2 convicted policemen have to blow up the Mongolian woman. He would like to know.

Jeeneze mentioned about the secrecy shrouded in the case of the 3 women being caned. Nobody seemed to know anything about the proceedings. Then a conviction was arrived at and the caning was done. And the women repented. Really?

Aussie MPs and I do not know real situation

In The Star newspaper today,

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Government, through Wisma Putra, will explain the “real situation” to the Australian MPs who had called for the sodomy case against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to be dropped, said the Prime Minister.

“We will explain and engage with the Australian MPs. Wisma Putra will handle it. I don’t think they know the real situation,” said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak at Gerakan’s Chinese New Year open house here on Sunday.

Najib said this when asked to comment on the Australian MPs who had lodged a formal protest urging Malaysia to drop the sodomy charge in the interest of building “confidence in the impartial rule of law in Malaysia”.

Almost 60 Australian MPs, including frontbenchers from both sides of the divide, had signed a letter in support of Anwar

I am certainly not aware that there is a "real situation".

If there is, then the current situation is .. maybe not "real"?.

Okay, if that being so, let the authority explain to all and sundry; me inclusive. I am sure there are others who would be interested to know the "real situation" other than the 60 Australian MPs.

That song is about the silliest song I know. I think I've mentioned it before earlier.

And you would've thought she would have repented after that. What do you know? She came up with another stinker "I Am a Tiger". Watch the video?

Again, I must say I was pretty smitten by her when she acted and sang in the movie "To Sir With Love" way back when I was like 16 years old.

Thinking of Food

Incidentally Thinking of You by Katy Perry is a really sad song.

Chinese New Year is around the corner and how can anyone not be surrounded and constantly be offered food in abundance. I am not saying I do not like it. I of course enjoy the CNY treats by Hewlett-Packard and Canon and more to come from the other brands and friends as well.

I am not obese or fat. However I would like to be slimmer, if possible.

That brings me to this question on if I should follow the widely brandished around advice. "Eat a big Breakfast!". It is extremely difficult for me to accept the wisdom of this advice.

I know they try to impress you with words like metabolic rates, adrenalin, cortisol, etc. And they try to convince you that being satisfied early in the morning will make you not go hungry easily and therefore overeat later in the day. Also like you may have jump started your metabolism and started to burn calories early or something.

Being a simple person, I am inclined to believe that eating a big meal regardless of the time of the day is bad news, especially a big breakfast. In fact, I think it is kind of silly.

See, breakfast is usually eaten in the morning (duh?) and is usually eaten alone. At this time, you are usually not so hungry if you are not used to eating big. Relatively easy to control the meal size.

Lunch is usually with friends and colleagues and customers. With all these people feeding their faces, and talking and talking, how can you not get carried away.

Dinner is with the family at home usually. No wives or domestic cooks will cook just enough food. See what I mean. Food in abundance again to tempt you no end.

Okay, I think fundamentally, this big breakfast thingy is based on a false assumption. That is, it assume that people do not eat or do not eat much when they are not hungry. Do you really think this assumption is true?!

I did a post on this free food given by Hewlett Packard last year.

Well, it happened again last week Thursday. This time it was in Grand Palace Restaurant in Pavillion, Bukit Bintang.

Awesome food (abalone, of course) and awesome people.

We have so many familiar resellers, just like last year. Nobody seemed to have given up this business that everybody says is so tough. Why arh?

I spotted Kathie and hubby Tang, Teh Kim Sai and wife Teresa, Jackie and son Jan something. Michelle and brother Thomas Hwang (my drink kaki some time back). Eric and wife from Enrich Oriental Media, Kow and wife, Ken Ngee and wife.

A lot of people seemed to bring their wives. Goes to show that these HP functions have no serious actions.

Of course, we too have Loke and Shirley as well as Lee Becon and the other boss.

Kym Lim was there. Beautiful, elegant, attractive and effervescent. And I think still available!

Now that Yan Yoke Ping is leading the charge in Samsung, HP has a brand new Country General Manager Bernard Chiang to try to put a spanner in the works on Samsung World Domination.

You won't believe me. But all the HP staff are good looking. I find it hard to believe either.

Wong Choon Heng seems to be coming back soon. Good to get away from cold England for a while.

Canon just had its Annual Dinner this year and now we have hundreds of hundreds of photos on Facebook. Quite a big number of young good looking people now. Kind of reminds me of the coming Grammy Awards.

Roger Federer won again, this time what, 16 Grand Slams titles. Andy Murray lost. Now England has to wait for more than 74 years for the next English Grand Slam winner.

3 days ago, I attended the Canon SOHO Printers/AIO Fax Seminar in Grand Dorsett, Subang. Yes, the former Sheraton Subang. Because I was taking note rather than taking notes, and in view of my advanced age, the following information needs verifications.

Canon inkjet printers in Malaysia and elsewhere has been in the Number 1 position since the 2nd World War. Samsung world domination plans in Malaysia may not materialize tomorrow! They are talking about local market share in excess of 70%!

Canon's single function laser printer was very close to be in the number 1 position last year coming within a whisker's distance. Canon's laser fax was number 1 again last year achieving again over a 50% market share!

The ambitious plan this year is to DOUBLE Canon laser SOHO AIO market share. This should see them into the mid twenties figure. And the general strategy is deep and multiple penetrations into the IT market.

The music mogul's all-star cover of REM's hit 'Everybody Hurts' - which is being released to raise funds for earthquake-stricken Haiti - will now take centre stage at the music awards 30th anniversary ceremony on February 16, after bosses reorganised the evening's line-up to clear a space for the song.

At the moment, it is unclear whether the musicians will all be present to perform together at the BRITs, or if a video will be aired instead.

Simon Cowell and Everybody Hurts

I understand Simon Cowell is currently very busy organising a super charity single in aid of Haiti earthquake victims. This single is Everybody Hurts originally done by REM.

So far, the confirmed big names include Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis, JLS and Michael Buble.

The other fellows he is talking with are Will Young, Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Take That, George Michael and Sir Paul McCartney.

This event will be a bit of a rush as the single should be out by the end of this month.

All proceeds go to the Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun's Helping Haiti campaign.

Tun Mahathir mentioned a little while back that the allah issue should not be settled in court. I disagree and well, his daughter too.

Nothing could have been so blatant in catering to an unruly crowd than the permission to hold demos against a court decision

What sort of justice system do we have if anyone can disrespect court decisions by holding demos against them? There are legal avenues to pursue: why do we not educate people to do just that?

Thus far, no government leader has straightforwardly said that not only is the burning of any house of worship against the law, but it is also un-Islamic.

Sadly, it is clear that there are too few of our leaders engaged in building peace among our people, but they are in fact more interested in keeping us divided.

The Silliest Song

I went over to wake somebody up this morning.

I wanted to sing the silliest song that comes to mind and "Boom Bang a Bang" popped up!

This song was done by Lulu in 1969. Tell me if you do not think it has to be really silly.

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are songs that you do not want to know too.

And they say the songs nowadays are not like those golden yesteryears!

Lulu is 61 years old now. Actually in 1967 in the movie To Sir with Love starring Sidney Poitier, she acted and sang the title song. I was real impressed then. I was a teenager and the song was so emotional for me. I fell in love with her then. Those days, I fall in love with all women who sing and especially if they play the guitar as well.

Then came Boom Bang a Bang in 1969. What was she thinking! Would you believe this song won the 1969 Eurovision Song Contest?! What was everybody thinking!

Later she got wiser and this one with Ronan Keating was much much better.

It is heartening to note that we have quite some people of all races giving out stalks of flowers in Bukit Bintang. And much as I do not like the megalomaniacal and manipulative Tun Mahathir, I am real happy to note that Marina Mahathir was there too.

And in today's papers, we have:

And so I've finally watched this movie that everybody has watched!

Except for the 400,000 who will be saved to propagate our race, this is a really spectacular way to die. Should you die in this manner and then join beings from other worlds in some heaven/hell environment, you sure can brag about your end days. Can you imagine dying togther with some 6 billion other people.

An exciting movie, no doubt. These narrow escapes, several times from explosions/falling buildings/flood waters etc has been used by directors over and over again. I was pretty impressed when I first watched the effects with Pierre Brosnan in Dante's Peak.

The special effects in this movie were massive! In fact, they were so massive that they seemed unreal. I don't mean to say the effects were not good. Just that it seemed unreal in that it ...... well, seemed unreal to me.

Whole cities being washed into the seas, the whole island of Hawaii gone up in flames, continents shifted around. Just too much for my brain, I guess.

I have no particular like/dislike for John Cusack. I do not mind watching him but it is not something I particularly look forward to. I first noticed him in the 1997 film Grosse Pointe Blank. I kinda like him then and also when he was in Con Air with Nicolas Cage in the same year.

There are 2 actresses who look like a younger Demi Moore. One is Jennifer Connelly and the other is Amanda Peet who starred opposite John Cusack in this movie. Here is her looking good.

After my feeble attempts at Cocaine and Wonderful Tonight,

Dinner was served accompanied by Rade's "She Made Me Smile".

Some of you especially CanonMalaysians have asked me, "Hoi, where are our photos? Why don't have one?"

Ya, some of you do not speak English very well.

2 reasons.

One, unlike the younger ones, CanonMalaysians invited to the event are not exactly in their teens and early twenties. Hence, you guys do not take pictures and upload them on your Facebook accounts.

"Like where can I get them to show the rest, you tell me? Somemore complain only."

Ya, sometimes I do not speak English very well.

Two, the official photographer from Wedding Couture has not given us a copy of his work yet. Jeremy should be chasing him for them.

I promised that it will not be as long as the "Sex and the City" series. This won't continue until the members of Rade grow old.

I knew I've missed out somebody in my yesterday's Thank you list. Thank you StevenIOWA.

StevenIOWA is the awesome bassist with the J-Rock group Strawberry Jam.

StevenIOWA is also the brother of HaoRen.

StevenIOWA was also the gentleman responsible for the taping of the event show. Today should be the first episode.

This big man looks like this. Trust me! You do not want to mess with someone who has to squeezed into a normal doorway.

The clip coming up opened the night's show. Probably the video cam wasn't fully ready. It missed out the first 20 seconds or so.

(500) Days of Summer

I chanced upon this movie DVD lying around the house and I've just watched it yesterday.

The lead male was Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Not an exceptionally good looker but some will like him for his boyish looks and ordinariness. (is there such a word?).

You may remember him in the popular mid 90's sit-com TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun as the long hair kid. This photo coming up may jolt your memory a bit.

I can't recognise the female lead Zooey Deschanel at all. Jeradyne mentioned she was in Yes Man.

I still don't get it.

Anyway it seems she is pretty popular for her deadpan looks in movies.

Right, back to this movie.

It seems that this movie has got 2 nominations lately.

I don't quite like this movie though.

The first one hour was really boring and I did not see anything new. It was not exceptionally funny, clever nor original. Boy meets girl. Boy falls in love. Have sex. Girl does not fall in love in return. Boy gets very frustrated. ... you get my drift.

Things got a bit more interesting after the first one hour. I especially like the part where you have two composite left right scenes going that has the expectations side and the reality side. Haha.

Watch this movie on a rainy afternoon when you have nothing much to do and can't sleep.

The Great Malaysian Brain Drain-Final Part

This should constitute the concluding part of the titled article by Koon Yew Yin.

The human factor

It’s unrealistic that the education system can be effectively overhauled. Even tweaking one aspect of it, such as the language switch for Math and English, created havoc.

It’s not that our educational framework is so bad as, after all, a lot of study and planning did go into it.

It’s only when the politicians dictate from on high and overrule the better judgment of the educationists – Dr Mahathir Mohamad being case in point – that we slide deeper into the doldrums.

The politicisation of education and the hijacking of the country’s educational agenda has clearly cost us heavily in terms of policy flip-flops and plummeting standards, and the loss of a good part of our young and talented human resources.

Matters become worse when Little Napoleons too take it upon themselves to interfere with teachers. For instance, the serial number assigned candidates when they sit public exams. Why is a student’s race encoded in the number? What does his ethnicity have to do with his answer script?

There is further suspicion that the stacks of SPM papers are not distributed to examiners entirely at random (meaning ideally examiners should be blind to which exam centres the scripts they’re marking have originated from).

A longstanding complaint from lecturers is that they are pressured to pass undergrads who are not up to the mark, and having to put up with mediocre ones who believe they are ‘A’ material after being spoilt in mono-racial schools.

Letting teachers do their job properly and allowing them to grade their students honestly would arrest the steep erosion of standards.

And, unless we are willing to be honest brokers in seeking a compromise and adjustment, the renewed demonising of vernacular schools is merely mischievous.

Either accept their existence or integrate the various types of schools.

But are UiTM and its many branch campuses throughout the length and breadth of the country, Mara Junior Science Colleges and the residential schools willing to open their doors to all on the basis of meritocracy if Chinese, Tamil, and not forgetting religious schools, were abolished? Not open to a token few non-Bumiputera but genuinely open up and with the admission numbers posted in a transparent manner.

Finally, there are teachers genuinely passionate about their profession. There are promising teachers fresh out of training college who are creative and capable of inspiring their students. It’s not only Form 5 students who have been demoralised. Teachers are human capital that we seem to have overlooked in the present controversy.

Conclusion: Ensuring fairness for the future well-being of our young

A segment of Johoreans cross the Causeway daily to attend school in Singapore. Many continue their tertiary education in Singapore which has among the top universities in the world. Eventually, they work in Singapore and benefit Singapore.

Ask around among your friends and see who hasn’t got a child or a sibling who is now living abroad as a permanent resident. I can’t really blame them for packing up and packing it in, can you?

It’s simply critical at this juncture that we don’t let our kids lose hope and throw in the towel.
The system might be slow to reform but mindsets at least can be changed easier.

It starts with the teachers, the educationists and the people running the education departments and implementing the policies.

Please help Malaysian youngsters realise their full potential. Just try a little fairness first. – cpiasia.net

The Great Malaysian Brain Drain-Part 2

I've mentioned earlier that I shall dish this out to you in more bite sizes. 6 installments in all.

I've changed my mind and have decided to reduce it to 3. So this is the 2nd episode with 1 more to go.

State Ideology: Be grateful you’re Malaysian

Try putting yourself in the shoes of an 18-year-old. This young Malaysian born in 1991 is told that Umno was very generous in granting citizenship to his non-Malay forefathers in 1957. Thus as a descendant of an immigrant community – one should be forever grateful and respect the “social contract”.

Gratitude is demanded by the state while little is reciprocated. Under the NEP – and some say this policy represents the de facto social contract – every single Vice Chancellor of every single Malaysian public university is Malay.

Promotion prospects for non-Malay lecturers to full professorship or head of department are very dim, hence we have the dichotomy of non-Malays predominant in private colleges while correspondingly, the academic staff of public institutions proliferate with Malays.

The civil service is staffed predominantly by Malays, too, and overwhelmingly in the top echelons. The government-linked corporations have been turned into a single race monopoly.
Hence is it any surprise that almost all the scholarships offered by government and GLCs seem to be reserved for Malays?

Youngsters from the minority communities see that Malays are the chosen ones regardless of their scholastic achievement and financial position. Some are offered to do a Master although they did not even apply (but the quota is there to be filled, so these disinterested Malays are approached).

Our lesson today is ...

How the government apparatus conducts itself and the consequences of its policy implementation will upset an individual’s innate sense of justice.

The government pays about RM1.8 billion in annual salaries to teachers. A child is taught moral studies in class but he learns in life that adults condone and conspire to immorality by perpetuating the unfairness and injustice which impacts on Malaysia’s young.

On the other hand, the favoured group is given more than their just desserts without either merit or need. When one is bred to think that privilege is only his rightful entitlement, we would not expect this young person to pay back to society in return.

Our Malaysian education system has been flip-flopped, pushed and pulled this way and that until standards dropped to alarming levels. The passing mark for subjects in public exams have fallen notoriously low while the increasing number of distinctions have risen fatuously high with

SPM students notching 14As, 17As and 21As.

With top scorers aplenty, there will not be enough scholarships to go around now that the Education Ministry has decided to put a cap on the SPM, limiting takers to 10 subjects.

The Great Malaysian Brain Drain-Part 1

The following article is by Mr Koon Yew Yin and appeared in The Malaysian Insider July 11, 2009.

Koon Yew Yin is a 76-year-old chartered civil engineer and was one of the founders of IJM Corp Bhd. He was also secretary-general of Master Builders Malaysia for nine years and a member of the Board of Engineers Malaysia and Sirim. Now he is proclaimed to be fully retired. And there is even a scholarship for higher education students setup under his name Koon Yew Yin Scholarship.

It is my opinion that all Malaysians should read what he has to say. And knowing (purportedly) blog readers, long articles turn them off. I am splitting his article into 6 parts and hopefully you can and will take the time to read them all.

JULY 11 – There is a boy I know who scored 10 A1s. His mother is a primary school teacher and Andrew has two younger brothers. His father, a civil servant, had already passed on by the time the son sat SPM in 2006.

Armed with his excellent result, Andrew applied for a scholarship to study mechanical engineering. The government rejected his application. Petronas rejected his application too. Can you imagine how disappointed and frustrated he was?

As soon as I learned of Andrew’s difficulty, I offered him financial assistance to do accountancy in Utar. He has been scoring top marks in every exam to earn a scholarship from the university. Although Andrew is now exempted from paying fees, I still bank him RM400 a month to cover cost of living.

I have given assistance and allowances to more than 40 poor students to study in Utar in Kampar, Perak. Andrew is typical of their calibre; he prefers to get what is his due on merit, and his university has seen fit to waive his fees.

On my part, I expect nothing from those that I’ve supported except for them in future to help young people in similar circumstances, and to hope that they will all stay back in Malaysia so that they can lend their talents to building up our nation.

There are others with deeper pockets who have extended a helping hand to our youngsters. One of them offers the cost of school and exam fees, hostel accommodation, RM5,800 a year for expenses, RM1,200 settling-in allowance, and transport/air ticket. Furthermore, the recipient is not bonded. In other words, the giver asks for nothing back.

I’m talking about the pre-university Asean scholarship extended to Malaysians by ‘the little red dot’ Singapore.

Of course, Singapore is not doing it for purely altruistic reasons. The country is giving these much coveted Asean scholarships to build up her national bank of talent.

Some Malaysians accuse them of ‘poaching’ the creme de la creme of our youngsters. I don’t look at it as poaching. Their far-sighted government is doing it in their national interest.

And why not? Singapore can afford it. It has three times our GDP per capita. On another comparative note, the GDP per capita of Taiwan and South Korea are 2.5 times and double ours respectively. Before the NEP’s introduction in 1970, the four countries were at parity.

The big question is why are we surrendering our assets which Malaysian parents have nurtured but the state neglected?

Tens of thousands of young Malaysians have left our shores on the Asean scholarship. I am not sure if Singapore is willing to give out the figure.

But I am pretty sure the Malaysian authorities do not give two hoots about this, whatever number they may have arrived at. If they do, there seems to be no policy change to stem the outflow.

Malaysia is optimistically indifferent to the continuous brain drain, little caring that it is detrimental to our aspiration of becoming a developed country (I hate to say this) like Singapore.

Collide - An Acoustic Cover by Jeradyne

I was rummaging through some older stuff and I came across this clip and I listened to it again.

I could have posted this earlier and completely forgotten about it. If it happens, I may forget and do it again next year.

Jeradyne did this eight months ago.

I think this is a credible effort. It is certainly different from the original one done by Howie Day. The feel is different. Howie's has quite a bit of sadness in its interpretation.

Jeradyne's version is more easy listening, whilst Howie's would be a sound track for an imminent breakup.

Went to Sek Yuen instead

We had to eat lunch earlier today.

Seeing we have not gone to the Pudu FishHead (Sisters) place for a while, we went.

True enough, it was a bad idea. The police can easily declared the large number of people waiting as an illegal assembly and arrest those hungry people.

A little disappointed, we went to the nearby Sek Yuen restaurant instead. My father in law used to have his birthday dinners in this place. Ya, this is an old restaurant.

So everything is old here. The waiter, peeped in to see the cook, the lady manager, the male cashier and myself, all old. Pictures on the wall. Some old and some new ones taken to purposefully depict old angles in black and white. They have no cabinet like structure for hot water to refill you cha. Instead the hot water is obtained from the kitchen in a large kettle. The old male cashier has this big abacus on his table to ring up your bill.

The men all wore white pagoda thin and smooth collarless T-shirts. Naturally their hair were combed back slickly with hair cream keeping them in place.

There was a music station on, playing only old Shanghai style Cantonese songs. I wonder what station was that.

The food. We ordered the famous pipa duck, stir-toss choy sam and local sauce/oil cold bean curd.

Took this picture after we started eating.

The choy sam was excellent, sweet and juicy, not oily at all. The duck was good. Drier than the Paramount Sunrise version. I understand here, they still use wood to cook the duck. The duck was a bit chewy though.

The bean curd was horrible. I have never tasted coarser bean curd than this. No hint of sourness here though. Not cold at all, the way I like it.

In the seventies, there were quite a number of bands locally. Some people may remember The Strollers, Grim Preachers, October Cherries, Teenage Hunters, Ash Wednesday etc..

Also there was an awesome band from Singapore then called The Western Union Band. Their biggest hit is this one. Suasolito.

I first heard him when he did the haunting "In the Air Tonight" when I was pretty young of course. I was impressed then naturally. I used to play a bit of drums in a school band then. This guy is just 2 years older than me.

Just discovered this, this morning. As I get excited very easily over small things, I got excited.

I was looking for some old songs (ya, you know why), and I stumbled into Jango.com .

Here on http://www.jango.com/ you can type in the song that you want to hear and presto, you've created a radio station that will play your song and similar songs. Isn't that awesome. You get to see the song being played, the name and picture of the artiste and the remaining time left.

In addition you can search for songs you like and add them on to this radio station of yours. I am sure there are other things it can do. I am still groping at them.

Sign language with your Doctor on Erectile Dysfunction?

I went to bed with a freaking running nose and a really bad cough last night. Went to bed but had a difficult time sleeping.

I went to work this morning as my company does not give medical leaves to bosses. That reminds me. In my next reincarnation, I just want to work for Canon until retirement.

But my company allows bosses to go seek out a doctor for treatment. That reminds me. Why do people keep telling me that they see a doctor when it is really the doctor who is seeing them! Well, unless the person is a doctor and the other doctor is sick!

Went to the clinic in Kuchai Entrepreneurs' Park but went away in view of the crowd. That reminds me. Why name a place so difficult to pronounce or spell!. Jeremy Lee once said that of a Canon paper I introduced called Concerto. Canon Concerto.

Went to the clinic near my house then. This doctor has some hole-in-one golf certificate and another picture with a gweilo to distract you while he unbutton your shirt front to roam in his stethoscope, purportedly to see if you are still alive or if you have phlegm in your lungs. Telling him you have, won't help. He has to go check you up himself.

Really, my point is with this poster I saw outside his room while I was waiting to be molested.

This one ask you a very important question. It says "How's your love life?"

I am sure it did not ask if you cuddle up with your partner when you sleep. That reminds me. Nowadays, it is called spooning if both of you face the same direction. I have been calling it the motorbike position.

If you want to improve your love life, there's a quick solution. Seize the moment. Use your thumb to talk to your Doctor about erectile difficulties.

And you have 2 symbols of the thumbs. One up and one down.

For 2 seconds, I was pretty impressed. Wow, now one does not have to talk, to save on embarrassments. Just show the Doctor the thumb down and he will understand.

Then.... then. How after? So now the Doctor knows that you have the male morning sickness. He nod his head and look at you. You nod your head and look at him.

10 seconds passed. Then the doctor nod his head and you follow suit.

Another 10 seconds passed. There has to be a dialog, otherwise, the scene above will continue until both of you grow old and die. Well, on the million to one chance that both of you can sign, then there would be progress. Otherwise ..... ..

Chastity Bono/Chaz Bono

If you are old enough, you may remember a famous duo Sonny and Cher.

Their hit song then was the slow head nodding "I Got You , Babe". And this following video was in 1965! I was twelve then! My current kids could very well be my dad's friends before a reincarnation.

Notice how Cher looked so innocent and pretty in 1965.

They broke up like most marriages of celebrities. Cher went solo and one of her memorable hit song is Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.

Profile Pictures and Cold Weather

I had breakfast with Jeradyne earlier today. Usual lah.

We talk about other people. Usual lah.

We talk about Facebook, sometimes usual lah.

We talk about the profile pictures of people in Facebook. First time.

Half the people in this country has to be wearing thick clothings and a lot of the pictures are taken when it was snowing.

We speculated it this way. Going by Abraham Maslow hierarchy of needs, your friends would be in the social and self esteem level. Physical and security needs would have been satisfied.

What better way to earn some respect from friends than to tell them that you have holidayed abroad. Well, you may argued that standing in front of the Eiffel Tower or the London Bridge and have your photo taken would suffice.

Hey, remember that we are talking about profile pictures! A bit closer up and recognisable. Hence the clothes and the snow. In this country those things are not normal and viola, we can quite easily conclude, people with photos like that have holidayed abroad or at least had been abroad on a business stint.

The gweilo are no different of course. Instead of using clothes, they use tans and skimpy clothing in a outdoor environment. Preferably a beach.

"But Stanley, you are no different! Look at your profile picture!" a voice spoke in my head.

Of course, I ignored that voice. What! you think I listen to voices in my head? Do I look like I need a shrink?

Jeradyne told me about Paramore and the song Decode sang by this girl Hayley Williams.

She is really good.

Rade's Miracle Mile

Well, he does and their new single 'Miracle Mile' seems to get a little help from a radio station.

I understand that this song will be aired over CAPITAL FM88.9 at the approximate times.

Happy Deepavali and Pooja Chopra

So once again on this day I wish all those who celebrate a very "Happy Deepavali" and should you choose to drink, do not drive nor be too drunk.

A little bit of old news (oxymoron again?) for you. Ms Pooja Chopra won the Ms India title earlier this year. If you do not know how she looks like, let me show you.

A very interesting and moving story about her, if you have not known already. This will make you angry and upset if you are like me. Against bigotry.

Pauline Wong's Birthday Bash

Pauline had a birthday party last Saturday in Bangsar South at a place called S'Mores. I was invited. I was honored.

The place is good. But let me tell you. I see so many places now with names connected to Damansara that Damansara is no longer a place. It has effectively now become a name. Conning people to make a place look like it is upmarket is so uncool. And now Bangsar may have joined the rank of Damansara. You may very soon have Bangsar North, Bangsar Utama, Kota Bangsar and perhaps even Bangsar Damansara.

The picture above is an old one of course. I looked fairly alright is why.

Arriving at the place, one of the first things I did besides hugging Pauline and wishing her Happy Birthday was to ask her to remember to send me photos of the do. She said 'no' straightaway disapproving me of putting the pictures up on this blog. My Samsung camera phone is of no use in low lighting's.

The two photos below is evident of that fact.

Gee, I realized too late that I forgot to ask her how old she was.

It was an interesting evening.

There were altogether about 30-40 people. Quite a mix. Some good looking and some used to be good looking. Food was Western and Fusion.

Pauline has got up some slide show of her in days of yore. Actually I have quite a bit of those photos too in www.photobucket.com/stanleycheong/canonmalaysians . She has a number of people there probably from the same dance class. They showed off en group some suave tandem line dancing. They all looked like they enjoyed tremendously the opportunity. Serena got into the act as well

Okay, now let me talk about the people I know.

I went with Malani Cumurasamy. Her face did not age a bit but she is a little bigger now. For your information, she is now married and have a boy 6 and a girl 3. I think their names are Rihan and Nisha. Rihan is the talented one, it seems. He can already read and write when he was 3 years old. Very pleasant and good looking kids. Very talkative and friendly as well.

Serena Ong is now married too. No kids yet. As you know, she is the country manager for Pacific Cigar Sdn Bhd, I think. A Hongkong company. The husband is called Rosli. So she is a muslim now. Do not offer her char siew. You may remember she joined Canon as a sweet young thing 19 years old.

Noraini Ibrahim used to be with Malaysia Airlines before she joined Canon. After leaving Canon, she went back to stewardessing. She is married too with a young daughter. She still has those luscious lips.

Pauline Wong of course with her partner is now a big time developer with the busy 3rd Mile Square project to be proud of.

I went off somewhat early because I had to pick up a close relative.

I am pretty certain after when I left, the party went up a few notches and went wild. Booze were free flowing, mind you.

Woody Allen - My Next Life

On a fairly regular basis, I receive gems from my friends. And this is one of them from somebody I know named Low Min Chee.

In 1985, when Whitney Housten came out with her first self-titled album, I went to buy it with listening to just a couple of songs then. Just that the reviews were so complimenting. I remembered looking at the album cover and thought "Hey, this album cover isn't so impressive".

It was a music cassette.

Very quickly I got to like her so much and continue to listen to her songs for quite some years. Mind you, I am actually more a song person than a singer person.

She then joined my group of female supersingers including Barbara Streisand and Mariah Carey. (the older Mariah Carey that is, before she started to show her body and sang Touch My Body).

The Chinese way of eating is unhygienic - True?

I was unusually busy the last few days. Not sure if it was good or bad. Shall think about this predicament later.

I was having a light breakfast with Jeradyne this morning in my favorite coffee shop near my house. I saw Kevin - not so long ago Canon Printer person with his two rather young daughters. Thought of saying hello later as he was some distance away. I blinked my eyes twice and alas, he was gone. The coffee shop I was in serves to-kill-for RM5 club sandwiches.

Talking about food. I have on several occasions heard that our Chinese way of eating is rather unhygienic, you know sharing commonly centralized dishes where we dip our chopsticks and forks and spoons.

I looked up the Net.

I saw this Eating in Taiwan: Etiquette and I quote.

As with Chinese cuisine elsewhere, food in Taiwan is generally eaten with chopsticks and served on large plates placed at the center of the table. Unlike in the West, however, a serving spoon might not accompany the dishes, and instead guests will use their own chopsticks to transfer food to their plates. Some people unaccustomed to this way of eating may consider this unhygienic, though it is usually quite safe. However, those who prefer to use a separate utensil for serving have the option of requesting communal chopsticks (公筷 gongkuai), and can gently encourage friends to use them if they do not automatically do so.

I can't find any more stuffs related to my post title.

My view is that it is not true generally. How so?

Our manner of eating is certainly different from the Westerners significantly. regardless of whether we are using chopsticks or forks and spoons.

When we are using chopsticks, we tend to exhibit a sucking action to separate the food from the pair of chopsticks holding it. This behaviour entails very little contact between our lips and the chopsticks being used. The very obvious example would be our manner of eating soup mee/meehoon. The Westerners tend to put quite a bit of the chopsticks into their mouths to pull in the food via a sweeping lips action.

When using forks and spoons, in addition to the sucking motion, we too utilise our top front row of teeth to very gently rake in the food, being careful not to touch the fork or spoon used. Here a Western person would close his mouth over the whole business end of the spoon/fork and 'wipe' in the food totally.

When drinking soups, we inevitably touch the spoon with our lips. But you will notice that we tend to touch as little as we can, and with a slight tipping motion, draw in the liquid. The drinking action of a Westerner would be the same as in the above paragraph. Incidentally, they can't drink hot soups.

If the above descriptions make you think about sex, well, I can vouch for you being healthy.

Incidentally, the Westerner's way of eating local/Chinese food means that they tend to draw in an unusually larger amount of the spices/curry/gravy and hence tend to make it too hot for them.

Free and get 85 million users

AVG is now 18 years old and is launching their ninth version of its AVG antivirus software to be available in mid-October. And it free!

Giving things away free sure will get you many friends and in this case a lot of users. Well, 85,000,000 of them.

And I love quoting numbers. It makes me seem smarter.

The new one runs 50 percent faster than its previous version. And it offers a new way to protect against identity theft, a problem that has been mushrooming in recent years.

Now the software takes about 11 mouse clicks to install, compared to 22 before. It’s the little innovations like this that have helped the company snag 40 percent of the worldwide free antivirus software market.

You may also have heard that Microsoft also wants to give free anti-virus stuffs too. They called theirs Microsoft Security Essentials. I understand it is not bad.

In the case of the new AVG:

The new suite of software has basic antivirus protection. But it also includes layers of protections such as a firewall, anti-spyware, and Link Scanner. The latter examines the search results in your Internet searches and tells you whether those links are safe to click. LinkScanner frequently updates its scans of a link; that’s important now because many sites are hijacked and what was a safe site yesterday could be a dangerous site today.

After AVG looks for known threats, it enlists help from the cloud, where it taps “behavioral” technology that figures out if a new file or link is behaving in a suspicious way. With such technology, AVG can block a new virus even if that virus isn’t in the known library of viruses.

Looks kind of impressive.

I have not watched Bruno yet

It is not usual for me to talk about a show that I have not watched. For one, it is banned in this country and so therefore in my mind, means interesting. Two, it is not available yet from my regular pusher.

I've talked a bit about Borat earlier. That movie was actually released 3 years ago. Also banned, of course. Just so you know, it has Pamela Anderson in that one.

I have problems with the old chat box by flooble. And as per my usual manner of managing problems, I've gotten rid of it.

It is not so easy with people though. There are a few (well actually just one) in my industry that I fleetingly thought of getting rid of. sigh!

Well, this one keeps on bitching and bitching and bitching and bitching and bitching ... and I thought all the while he was my friend.

.... who is this Stone-Mashe .. .. how can you allow him to disturb the market .. .. he is sure going to throw price one .. .. i've just told the other distributor not to draw stocks from the principal as I'm going to sell below cost .. .. what? i have taken on this other brand to do? that is my right wat? you cannot control me, but i want to control you .. .. how much stocks do you have on this model, i want to buy up everygthing .. .. so the salesman does not want to handle my account just because i scolded his mother, ok lah, i don't need him .. .. blah, blah, blah. ..

I am observing a minute of silence here for the loss of human decency for some and hope that business does not have to be war-like.

Jogadanz in Kuala Lumpur

They are not a terribly great band. But they are a high energy band. A lead singer and two sexy ladies taking turns to sing as well.

Ris Low - What do you think?

Quite a bit of controversies on Ris Low. The Miss Singapore World 2009 until yesterday.

Ris Low was crowned as Miss Singapore World 2009 on 31 July, 2009. She stepped down on 29 September, 2009.

In addition to winning the crown, Low was also named the following: Miss Community Ambassadress 2009, Miss Lumiere Ambassadress 2009, Miss Dazzling Eyes 2009, Miss Photogenic 2009, Miss Crowning Glory 2009, and Miss Best in Catwalk 2009.

Low, age 19 as of 2009, is currently studying for a diploma in Travel and Tourism and a diploma in Nursing at the Management Development Institute of Singapore.

She seemed to have handled an interview pretty badly.

Low has been heavily criticised for her inability to speak proper English as well as her apparent lack of intellect displayed during a televised fashion interview. However, some people have tried to downplay the fracas by saying that most youths in Singapore also speak in a similar manner. Low's interview has sparked much discussion about the pressing issue of Singlish among Singaporeans, especially in youths these days.

Singapore forums and websites alleged that Low won the crown underhandedly and was undeserving of the title. There have also been calls for Low to be stripped of her title as Miss Singapore World 2009, largely because of her poor command of the English language. This was apparent in an interview with her mispronunciations resulting in the following phrases: "leopard preens"(prints), "studying steel"(still studying), "something rad (red) and loud", "you know, boomz!", "bigini"(bikini), et cetera. A mocked up video of her interview was uploaded onto YouTube on 31 August, 2009, and has garnered over 200,000 views since then.

What caused her to have to step down yesterday however, was a case of credit card fraud.

On 25 September, 2009, it was revealed that she had been convicted of credit card fraud in May, 2009, and was sentenced to two years' probation. She faced five charges of misappropriation, cheating using illegally obtained credit cards, and impersonating their users' identities prior to winning the title of Miss Singapore World 2009. Low was unaware of the fact that she needed to declare the offense, and only declared it two months after the pageant when she was required to sign a contract.

There are several versions of the interview, where she was heavily criticized, and here below is one.

I have to agree that her command of the English language is not up to scratch. However, I am okay with that. With some others, I think we should be kinder on her as English is probably not her mother tongue and that interview could very well be conducted in Mandarin and I am certain, she would not have fumbled, as a Singaporean.

I am also agreeing that she did not come across as being very smart. I do not know about the criteria for representing a country as a beauty queen. I consider this a liability to the country on her part.

She did not seem to look too good either judging from the interview. Then looks are pretty subjective and I could be the odd one out.

I have always been fascinated by The Beatles believing them to be the best band in the world.

Although Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds is not my favorite Beatles song, it has always been a top ten. I was told and has always thought it been true, that this song was about LSD, the mind blowing hallucinate drug very popular in the 60's. I still think so. It was banned for many years from our local radio stations.

However, this sad news item says otherwise. It seems that the song was inspired by a childhood friend of Julian Lennon, Lucy O'Donnell who passed away yesterday at the age of 46 from lupus.

Yan Yoke Ping and Samsung

If rumors can't be considered news, then the following can't be breaking news.

Maybe just breaking rumors.

Well, this is not yet substantiated (as all rumors begin with), but I understand that Yan Yoke Ping will be joining Samsung in this country as the numero uno person, the head honcho if you will.

Rumors have it that Yan Yoke Ping will be 2 levels higher than Winnie Kuan and this event shall take place in a few days.

I shall be calling Ku Wei Jian tomorrow, the handsome person who was with Samsung right from the beginning to try to get a confirmation. Maybe Jonathan formally from Canon and now in Samsung can corroborate.

And as what is happening today was thought impossible in the past, you may one day be connected to someone you know who has since gone over to the other side. If you are like me, lazy and like to leave the office early, have long lunches which follow immediately with a tea break, then Prema would have been the best marketing assistant for you. Prema did her work (my work) systematically, consistently, and reliably. And she learns new things quickly. I remember her mastering computer application softwares like word processing, spreadsheet, PowerPoint and others quickly and seemingly effortlessly. Those days of yore, learning these stuff was a big deal, mind you.

Prema is currently working in HSBC Cyberjaya and she has 3 kids and is staying in Seremban.

By the way, Prema has acrophobia. I noticed that on a Canon company trip to Turkey. That was also the only time I held your hand; on the way down from a high historical place we went to.

Anyway facebook is a strange place. I am always reading women making harvests and finding lost sheeps. Prema is one of them. Also Margaret Lim, Karen Kow, Jeeneze, Patricia Lee .. What's happening?

We have around 800,000 active users as of December 16, 2008 in which 45% of them are male, 51% female and 4% unstated.

Those were the figures for Malaysia. At that time, Facebook has 140 million active users in the world. Today they have 300 million active users and let me tell you, we have now 2.6 million active users here in this country.

And that my friend, is close to 10% of our total population.

District 9 and East of Eden

Did not go anywhere. How unfortunate. Hence watched many many movies over the last 4 days.

One of them as you can tell obviously was District 9. This is another one of those alien pictures. With some differences though. It is not one of those superior beings descending down on earth saying "Take me to your Leader" thing and threaten to wipe out human civilisation if we don't ...

Anyway, this movie is quite interesting really. A large alien spaceship was found hanging over Johannesburg and upon investigation contained many many aliens who were rather helpless and leaderless. They were kept in a gated area which turned slumlike and later was to be moved to another area, all 1.8 million of them.

Our hero, Wikus van der Merwe is the MNU field operative assigned to lead the relocation. He is played by somebody I've never heard before, Sharlto Copley. Actually all members of the cast were new to me.

The aliens looked like this.

Well, there were quite some action scenes, fighting, awesome alien fireweapons, helicopters, contract soldiers et al.

Watching this movie can be quite a dizzy experience as the cameras kept shaking like a documentary shoot. Well, the movie was purposely shot in this mock documentary style.

You may be interested to know the following:

Like "Alive in Joburg", the short film on which the feature film is based, District 9's setting is inspired by historical events that took place in South Africa during the apartheid era, with the film's title particularly referencing District Six. District Six, an inner-city residential area in Cape Town, was declared a "whites only" area by the government in 1966, with 60,000 people forcibly removed and relocated to Cape Flats, 25 km (15 mi) away. The film also refers to contemporary evictions and forced removals to new suburban ghettos in post-apartheid South Africa and the resistance of residents. This includes the high profile attempted forced removal of Joe Slovo Informal Settlement in Cape Town to Temporary Relocation Areas in Delft, the attempted evictions of Abahlali baseMjondolo and evictions in the shack settlement, Chiawelo, where the film was actually shot.

Another movie that I watched on Astro is the very old East of Eden starring of course, James Dean, the hero of many including Joe Wong.

East of Eden is a novel by Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck, published in September 1952.

According to his last wife Elaine, he considered this to be a requiem for himself—his greatest novel ever. Steinbeck stated about East of Eden: "It has everything in it I have been able to learn about my craft or profession in all these years." He further claimed: "I think everything else I have written has been, in a sense, practice for this."

I was prepared to be impressed as I sat down to watched this movie yesterday afternoon on Astro.

I was not.

To quote a review:

The plot is a rough "modern" (circa the 1910s) retelling of the biblical tale of Cain and Abel, set in and between Salinas and Monterey, California, as an allegory of good versus evil. But both Steinbeck and screenwriter Paul Osborn weave a dense allegorical tapestry, with those polar ethical opposites becoming less clear-cut as the film progresses.

Also this movie is supposed to grow on you. That you will like it more and more upon repeat watching. I guess the subtle intricacies of the events escaped me and I find the movie slow moving and somewhat tedious at times.

James Dean was the reason why I watched. He was well known for his rebellious nature and devil may care attitude, which seems to attract women. Joe Wong would agree.

Well, here in this movie, he acted such. However, I find him overacting maybe.

Then again, possibly at that time in 1955 when this movie was released, it could be huge then.

Incidentally there was a remake of this movie in 1981 starring Timothy Bottoms, Jane Seymour, Bruce Boxleitner.

Hung Siew and Gillian Chung

Hung Siew plays bass in a local pop/rock band called Rade. Jeremy Cheong is in this band too. Jeremy plays the lead guitar jointly with a mate/friend by the name of Kok Keong.

Right, I was moving around the Net and I stumbled into Hung Siew's Friendster's account and I came upon this metamorphosis done by him. I first saw this some years back in a Michael Jackson's music video of the song Black and White.

"My God, he was so unique, so original, so rare". She said this too.

Call me sentimental. I was close to tears listening to Madonna's tribute to Michael Jackson. I've to agree with everything that she said about Michael Jackson.

I did not watched the VMA presentation live. I can't remember where I was.

So I watched a repeat earlier today. My comments?

The show was so wonderfully choreographed. They keep getting better and better. The stars were all electrifying. I agree with Barack Obama and thought what a jackass Kanye West was. Taylor Swift was so tall!, Now I can recognise Lady Gaga, she took off her veil to accept her award, Emimem looked older, Beyonce has a nice smile, Green Day sounded great, Russell Brand was so cool, Jack Black was not so funny this time round, Shakira was so short, especially when she was standing besides Taylor Swift, ..

And did you hear Russel Brand saying that Beyonce and Jay Z was the best looking couple there. .. And then followed up by saying that anybody with Beyonce would be the best looking couple. Cracked me up!

And the number of times censorship occurred in the repeat of this event sucked!

What was Serena Williams doing there?

And of course, I consider Madonna a living legend.

All in all, the show was incredibly entertaining. I am a happy man.

You know that hitz.fm has the best deejays, especially in the mornings with JayJay and Ian. (previously it was Rudy).

Then this happened. I can't remembered if it was JayJay or Ian who managed this question of who is the papa and mama of the Transformers.

21 was a 2008 movie. I watched it on Astro a few days ago. You know, Astro shows older movies mah.

The story is about a group of college students lead by a professor to cheat casinos in Las Vegas by counting cards playing black jack.

I don't know about you, but with a story line like this and knowing how greedy I can be; I can't help but enjoy this movie. Kevin Spacey was the professor. I have always been impressed with Kevin Spacey. This guy is so cool. He does not have to flex his muscles, does not have to talk loud, does not have to run about and does not have to physically fight anybody in most of his movies. Yet he portrays great strengths and intelligence. I like him.

The lead female is Kate Bosworth. I've mentioned her before on an earlier post on heterochromia. This is the condition where a person or an animal has different eye ball colors. An interesting phenomenon.

By the way, Laurence Fishburne was also in this movie. Yeah, this is the guy who replaced Dr. Gilbert "Gil" Grissom in CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

I think this movie is still on Astro. Go watch it.

But if I do, then Belgian Kim Clijsters would be my favorite to beat Serena Williams tomorrow in the semis and beat either one of the other 19 year old semi-finalists to clinch the US Open Trophy this year.

26 year old Kim Clijsters actually retired in May 2007 and changed her mind last month.

Watching her this time round, she looks extremely confident, solid, moves well and execute her awesome forehands repeatedly successfully. She is so strong.

Clijsters gave birth to a daughter on 27 February 2008, at 1:35 pm at the Vesalius hospital in Tongeren, Belgium. The girl, Jada Ellie, weighed 3.035 kg and measured 51 cm.

Marjorie Chang left early and so I lost the opportunity to take a picture of her this time.

Jullie Chin, being the nicest person that she is, thought it would be a good idea to meet for lunch amongst some older folks, ex-Canon of course. Well, Liew Sip Chon was invited as well. Did she know something that I don't?

Jullie Chin, being the rich person that she is, can' t be inviting us for lunch in the usual cheaper places that I normally go. You know, Foon Kee, Goon Wah, Yu Ai etc.

Jullie Chin, being the busy married woman that she is with kids, she can't be inviting us for drinks in the evening. For me and Joe Wong, this would be perfect. sigh.

The Cove in The Gardens is actually a very nice place.

This is opposite La Senza. I wondered what La Senza sells. I checked the Net.

Where was I?

Oh yes, the lunch. Food was good. Location excellent. Clean. And they have a outside alfresco area for Liew Sip Chon and SK Lim to smoke.

You know Marjorie Chang. I have being talking quite a bit about her lately. She had to leave early.

SK Lim was in the handphone business for quite a long time after leaving Canon. He sold off the whole business a few days ago. I understand that over a period of 1 year, he has been coming and going to Chengdu. He has got something big brewing there. I understand he is also going to start a new family there as well.

Everybody knows Jullie Chin. But you may not know that she is selling her beautiful home. On a later date, I shall post some pictures.

Lim Eye Thun. This one I have not seen for many many years now. She joined us in 1985/1986 to promote our Canon VP2000 Word Processor. The VP2000 has since gone the way of the dinosaurs. Eye Thun left; went to England for 2 years and became a lawyer. She used to be an avid swimmer and squash player. I played quite a bit of squash with this athlete.

Currently, she is just enjoying life and plays badminton regularly in OG Heights, near my home.

We all know KC Han as the Number 1 Will writer in Malaysia. Probably the best looking one too. She told me frequently that she is quite casual in her attire and her looks.

What a liar!

Now, Liew Sip Chon.

Liew has elevated to the position of God, as quite a number of his employees told me. Maybe I should not talk about him, as in this country, religion and God can be sensitive to so many people.

As I do not subscribe to this religion sensitivity nonsense, I shall talk about Liew Sip Chon. However in private, okay?

I've just watched this video by Malaysiakini.

My conclusion: What a bunch of Idiots!

A Hindu temple is supposed to be relocated in a 90% Malay district in Selangor. Some of the residents did not like it.

No issues with that. I would probably not like it if a mosque is relocated in Happy Gardens where I live.

Protest marches, non-vulgar banners, sensible speeches. No issues with that.

But what the fuck is this cow's head thing? What the fuck is this threatening to sacrifice lives to protect your wishes. What the fuck is this blood blood talk? And why the hell do you want to repeatedly stomp on the cow's head.

For goodness sake, the freaking cow is already dead. You mothers were carrying the head. Is that not obvious?

Seriously, what a bunch of Idiots!

It certainly will not look good on your resume if you were the Prime Minister and you can't put a stop to these nonsense.

And yes, watching Astro on plasmas certainly beats LCD's.

When I first read about Kartika's case, I thought she was one of these women above. Silly me!

You know, we frequently hear about this "once in a lifetime opportunity". An opportunity to make it big. Being famous maybe, being immensely rich maybe. For me, I guess a once in a lifetime opportunity could mean several hundred lifetimes.

Lucky Kartika. She must have garnered quite a bit of good karma points in a previous life.

Her time has arrived.

Fame has arrived. The absurdities of the actions of various related parties in this country has presented her with this gift. Being talented somewhat in the area of publicity, she has demanded that she be whopped in public. See, publicity, public. See the point? And the fame is worldwide, I suspect. Muniandy in India and Mathew Carl in Scotland could be talking about this over a beer in their respectively parts of the world. For all we know Wong Choon Heng in London could have been explaining to so many people everyday in England that he is not from Malaysia.

Fortune? Yea, after 2 months of intensive religious knowledge coaching, civil and syariah legal stuff and some history lessons, she would be ready.

The world would be her oyster.

Book deals. Appearances in various cities and universities all over the world. Talk shows, (Oprah and DeGeneres, are you listening?). Lectures. A documentary. A movie. Do not make this out to be like the William Hung thing. William Hung was just a 15 minutes of fame moment compared to what Kartika will get.

I want to be her friend. Anybody I know knows her?

And he was one of those who attended Steven Wong's retirement party last month on July 28.
