Canon de Pachelbel

Yesterday we saw a 23-year-old Korean Jeong-Hyun Lim rocked us with his interpretation. I wonder how this teaching oneself on a musical instrument to attain such high standards work. I can't even teach myself how to swim certain strokes fairly well.

Right. Now I invite you to watch this other interpretation. I have no information on this group. They are all good looking and play this piece well. Enjoy.

The sound on this one is a litttle soft. So, do turn up your speakers some.

Now, this following piece on the same composition is the most beautiful piece of music I have heard for a long time. At some point, I was almost brought to tears. No kidding.

Hope you feel the same way.

Canon Rock by Jeong-Hyun Lim

This is awesome.

This dude has amassed 59 freaking million hits and counting to be now at No. 4 position in the Top Ten YouTube Videos of all Time.

If you wonder how he looks like, there you go.
.

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
The piece being played with mounting dexterity was an exceedingly difficult rock arrangement of Pachelbel’s Canon, the composition from the turn of the 18th century known for its solemn chord progressions. The exacting part is the canon itself: a counterpoint played over the bass, originally by the three violins.
.
He is of course, Jeong-Hyun Lim, a 23-year-old Korean who taught himself to play the guitar over the course of the last six years
.
The original arrangement and performance of Canon Rock was by JerryC. JerryC (Jerry Chang) is a Taiwanese guitarist and composer. One of his best-known songs is the Canon Rock, which is a rock version of Pachelbel’s Canon in D. He is 24 years old, and has been playing the guitar for 7 years and piano for 10.
.
The rock re-arrangement displays his technical virtuosity and creative abilities on the guitar, instantly making him a internet phenomenon. Following JerryC’s popularity, numerous covers of Canon Rock have been made in an attempt to emulate JerryC’s unique style. The best-known cover is the one presented above by funtwo, whose performance has become a video phenomenon; interestingly, it has far surpassed the popularity of JerryC’s own original performance of the Canon.
.
I recommend that if Liew Sip Chon reads this post, that this piece be featured in one of Canon's functions, like the Annual Dinner or something. Copyrights issues, well, just see lah.

Who am I to tell Celcom What to Do

Recently one of my colleagues made contact with Celcom hoping that we can do some business with this large organisation.

I was ecstatic with hopeful anticipation. I told my colleague Thina. "Thina, just go ahead and do whatever is necessary to secure the account."

Okay, so we went ahead with the registration, forward our company profile, talk very nicely to the people in Celcom. We would have wash their cars and clean their houses if they ask us.

But no, what they require us to do is to have a celcom handphone number as our contact with them.

I thought this is rather unbecoming of a large organisation. I thought this is petty. This is unnecessary. This does not make me think highly of them. This somewhat turns me off.

I wish they don't do this and concentrate on the business proper.

So what do I wish some more?

I wish nobody in Celcom read my posts. And I wish we can still secure their account and everybody lives happily ever after.
.
Here, maybe some free advertisements for Celcom may help us.

Nothing Really Worthwhile

I was told the most watched youtube video currently is the Evolution of Dance by a fellow named Judson Laipply with 120 million hits!

I watched that. Then I watched him again with his Evolution of Dance 2 which has over 5 million hits now. Both are okay.

I guess I was just expecting better.

Cya later.

Siah Shu Fen

I mentioned that I do read teenagers' blogs and I am surprised at some of the qualities of the things that they write.

It was a pleasant surprise when teenager Singaporean Shu Fen came in to visit yesterday for the first time and left a comment of which I am taking as a compliment.

I took the opportunity to visit her blog and read a few posts. I replied her saying that I am impressed with her independent and mature views. She is 19, a year older than Jeradyne.

You may want to take a look at her latest post.

http://siahshufen.blogspot.com/2009/04/christian-indoctrination.html#links

I agree with her views.

Some Christians may be a little offended. However I hope that Christian friends of mine do not as all ideas and concepts should not be beyond criticisms.

Contract Law in Malaysia - Defective Goods

Received this from Jeffrey Yue recently.

Good to know. Sounds logical to me and should be probably true. Any lawyer out there to confirm?

Contract Law In MALAYSIA

Legal Issue on Contract Law in Malaysia - Good for us to know

This is something I like to share with you from one of my seminar recently. If you find this informative, pls circulate. It was conducted by A/P Catherine Tay on Legal issues in E-commerce..
.
Notice that most of the time, the receipt / invoice you received from the merchant carries this exclusion clause or similarly worded statement: 'Goods sold are not returnable' or 'No refund once sold'.

The thing that I have learnt from her is that : 'As long as your good is purchased for home use and not for business ( i.e. to be resold), the above exclusion clause is VOID.
.
That means, as long as the good is defective, regardless of what is worded, you CAN get back all your money spent. You do not have to accept a repair on the good or an exchange. You CAN ask for a refund. AND you are LEGALLY right and entitled to! What a relevation!!

And most of the time the merchant will refuse to return you your money.
.
Her advice? >From her own experience ( and no less than 7 and all successful!) , she will threaten the merchant with four words: 'SEE YOU IN COURT!'

The court here refers to the Small Claims Tribunal Court.
.
However, you don't have to tell them what court! All you have to pay is RM10 admin fee and the loser (the merchant) will have to refund you the money PLUS the admin fee!

She shared this with us because she felt that even educated people are cowed by such unfair wordings (which includes her jaded friends who are not lawyers).
.
Pls try not to let the merchant fleece you the next time you have a defective good.

I know where to file this. On the 16th floor of Putra Place (The Mall opposite Putra World Trade Centre) .. The form cost RM5.00. The Tribunal will settle within 2 months period.

Tribunal Tuntutan Pengguna Malaysia,

Tingkat 16, Putra Place,
100, Jalan Putra,
50622 KUALA LUMPUR
Tel: 03 - 40492300 / 40424181 Fax: 03 - 40424259

.
In 1997, Anna Kournikova became the second woman in the open era to reach the semifinals (her first on WTA Tour) in her Wimbledon debut (Chris Evert in 1972 was first). As a 16-year-old, she reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon, where she lost to the eventual champion, Martina Hingis by a score of 6–3, 6–2.
.
In 2000, Anna Kournikova broke into the top 10, reaching No. 8 in singles. She however did not win any Grand Slam titles as a singles player.
.
But she was the best looking tennis player then and she could have single handedly convinced 20 million men to think that tennis was the most interesting spectator sport in the world.

Why the Wicked Witch Isn't Dead

If you have the time, please read this extremely sad piece written by Johann Hari.

Johann Hari (born 21 January 1979) is a left-liberal British journalist and writer. He is a columnist for The Independent, the Evening Standard and the Huffington Post. His work has also appeared in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The New Republic, Le Monde, Slate, El Pais, the Sydney Morning Herald and Ha'aretz.

Hari describes himself as a "European social democrat", who believes that markets are "an essential tool to generate wealth" but must be matched by strong democratic governments and strong trade unions or they become "disastrous."

He appears regularly as an arts critic on the BBC show Newsnight Review.
.
.
Our only antidote is to insist on evidence. Whenever there are charges against a person or group, we must ask insistently: How do we know? Show me the proof. Show me three times. Show me 10.

The Reader

.

.

.

.

I finally got to watch The Reader. With so much publicity during the 81st Academy Awards not so long ago where Kate Winslet won the Best Actress Award, you must either have watched this movie and at least know how the story went.

I find this movie to be my best recent movie. It surpasses

Marley and Me. (which Jeradyne likes), I don't remember feeling much joy throughout nor much sadness towards the end when Marley dies. Maybe I am not too much of an animal person.

Changeling. I can't help but feel Angelina Jolie being not so right for this role. I keep imaging her as the femme fatale Tomb Raider.

Yes Man. Jim Carey is the same Jim Carey in almost all the roles he played in all the other comedies.

The role that Kate Winslet played was Hanna Schmitz. Hanna was an illiterate, otherwise normal woman, neither good nor bad, being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You can so easily feel for Hanna who was so helplessly trapped by circumstances. It is not unlike Changeling except that this movie is better. It is so extremely sad to see her die at 66 years old in the end as it seemed like her only option.

Watch it if you have not.

I like her English accent.

My Grandfather's Clock

78% of you would have heard of this song "My Grandfather's Clock".

More so, if you were a boy scout, a girl guide, a ranger, a boy brigade or just a kaypochee. Also if you have a singing father or grandfather or uncle or something.

Hope it brings back some pleasant memories. This one was sang by Johnny Cash.

Now, would you please hear this version.

By the way, I am a fan of Rockaholic1. This guy has won some European Rock Guitar Award or something.

We Chinese need to be controlled

I have a special interest in Jackie Chan because some people say he looks like me. Such misguided people.

Jackie Chan addressed a business forum in the southern Chinese province of Hainan a few days ago and say that a free society may not be beneficial for China's authoritarian mainland.

Let us see what he said.

"I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not. I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."

He went on to say that freedoms in Hong Kong and Taiwan made those societies "chaotic."

I disagree. I fail to see how Hong Kong and Taiwan are more chaotic and are lagging behind other countries and societies predominantly non Chinese. Malaysia is more controlled than these 2 places and I do not see it as being better.

China today is generally doing well. A increasing sizable portion of the population is benefiting economically. More and more people are finding their security and some esteem needs being fulfilled. At the same time, more and more people are seeking to be educated and are being so.

I just can't see how a people moving rapidly towards middle class and relatively educated "need to be controlled."

As a matter of fact, the government of China being highly pragmatic over the last 20 years or so, will probably even embark on another stage of loosening up on various controls.

Connie Talbot - You'll Love Her

Lately, you would have received quite some mails on

Susan Bolye who wow'ed Simon Cowell recently in Britain's Got Talent, the 40 something woman who has never been kissed, and ...

Yoo Ye Eun, the 5 year old pianist genius who was born without eyeballs.

This time round, let's revisit Connie Talbot, who too wow'ed Simon Cowell 2 years ago.

Connie Talbot (born 20 November 2000) is an English child singer from Streetly, Metropolitan Borough of Walsall, West Midlands. She rose to fame in 2007 when she reached the final of the television talent show Britain's Got Talent, where she lost to Paul Potts. Talbot was supposed to sign with Sony BMG but the label pulled out of the deal due to her age.

Talbot signed with Rainbow Recording Company and released her debut album Over the Rainbow in the UK on 26 November 2007. The album was re-released 18 June 2008 with a new track listing, and the first single from the album, "Three Little Birds", was released on 10 June 2008. Songs from the album are to feature in an upcoming video game about Talbot.

Despite its negative critical reception, Over the Rainbow has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide and reached number one in three countries. Since the initial album release, Talbot has performed publicly and on television in Europe, the U.S. and across Asia, where her music had gained recognition through YouTube. Her second album, Connie Talbot's Christmas Album, was released on 24 November 2008. On top of her musical career, Talbot continues to attend primary school and lives in Streetly with her family.

KC Han Honoured

The moment I laid eyes on her in 1987 when she came to join Canon, I knew she is the number 1, number 2 type of person or she would marry a rich man. I think she did both. What an overachiever.

KC Han was introduced to us by CanonMalaysian Thomas Wong.

The following excerpts were taken from TheStar newspaper yesterday.

Rockwills has, since its inception in 1995, written 90,000 wills and carved for itself the lion’s share in the market in which as many as 90 per cent of adults eligible to write their wills have not done so.

The 90,000 wills record by Rockwills was due to the strong support of its current 3,000 will-writers.

Karen Lee of Penang-based Karen Lee & Associates recorded the highest number of wills written in 2008, and was awarded the RWC Chairman Trophy Award.

K.C. Han of Taureo Sdn Bhd won the RWC Challenge Trophy Award for the highest will-writing fee income.

Alston Lau and K.C. Han emerged as first and second runner-up respectively for the Chairman Trophy Award, while Teresa Ong and Karen Lee were declared first and second runner-up respectively in the RWC Challenge Trophy Award category.

The four will-writers were also among the 71 Rockwills Golden Club qualifiers who earned an all-expense paid trip to Japan this year.

Well, looks like somebody is going to Japan this year.

Okay, pictures moment.

Some not so old pictures

.
.
.
And now, some not so new photos

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
"What about you, Stanley. Is your Will written by KC Han? Is my name in there?" The answer is a yes and no. Anyway, nothing much to will away.
.
If I guess right, you would have easily 30 CanonMalaysians who have their Wills written by her. She has tremendous experience and she would be in a position to make excellent recommendations.
.
And she buys me lunch everynow and then.

Yan Yoke Ping - Hardly Breaking News

It is not very often that I received news very quickly. This one is no exception.

Yan Yoke Ping has resigned from Hewlett-Packard as the Country Group General Manager, Imaging and Printing Group.

The ever smartly dressed Yan Yoke Ping said he wants to retire as told to me by a manager in ECS Astar. I guess in time, we shall know of what big plans he has.

Meanwhile, let's just look at some photos of the younger Yan Yoke Ping.

Would Bangsa Malaysia be possible

I believe so.

I believe it would be inevitable. The question would be when?

We do not need a Prime Minister today to declare it and to execute programs to achieve this end. It is good though for Najib to mentioned his 1Malaysia thing. His 1Malaysia can't be what most modern citizens want. Apartheid will remain a part of our lives for some time, but it somehow is part of the journey towards Bangsa Malaysia. We will go the way women equality and gays' rights have come so far and shall continue to evolve.

The Rakyat will somehow forced this eventuality. We have come too far to turn back. We can't turn back. The number of people (rakyat) educated enough to understand that meritocracy and the freedom to choose, has increased and is increasing still. I await critical mass.

The previous generations who fear police and governmental officers are today rapidly being replaced by younger voters who are more educated and are not afraid to voice their opinions.

There is certainly a growing number of younger Malays who already understood that the present Government is not doing them any favors. Forcing all Malays to be stuck as Muslims and using religion to unite the Malays will eventually not pan out. In time, more and more will exercise their freedom to choose, and I believe they will choose for change. Corruption and cronyism are too entrenched to be dismantled without a drastic change. Here, it would mean a change in Government and I look forward to this.

Today, 10% of pupils in Chinese medium primary schools are non Chinese Malaysians and a high percentage of this 10% are Malays. I can't help but feel that they too, in growing numbers, would want to compete and progress. The world being flat as it is, no one community really do have a choice.

Should the country continue to practise democracy, then yes, in time I believe Bangsa Malaysia is possible.

The very special Mr Wichai

I first got wind of this story from Malaysia-Finance blogspot. Naturally, I dug further and came into this blog by Stephen Cleary, a co-founder of thai-blogs, stories and photos about life and culture in Thailand.

Read this link

http://www.thai-blogs.com/index.php/2006/03/24/stories_from_the_thai_press_06?blog=8

or some of the following excerpts I picked out.

After Mr Wichai (Tao), aged 24, from Samut Songkram province, who earns his living by dealing in old goods, got married to gorgeous twins Ms Sirintara and Ms Thipawan 22, he vouched his sincerest ‘equal love’ for both of them!

Mr Wichai declared wholeheartedly, that he didn’t see much problem in having to perform tiresome marital duties with two wives.

Mr Wichai told the press that he had been best of friends with his neighbouring twins since they were children. “When I grew older, I would walk past their house each morning and try to decide for myself which one I fancied more, but it was darned impossible – I adored BOTH of them

“Absolutely no problems! For the first three nights of the week, I will sleep with Ms Thipawan and the next three will be spent with Ms Sirintara. As for every Saturday, the three of us will sleep together”

Now what's is really interesting are some of the comments.

The World's Largest Swimming Pool in Chile

The pool at the Chilean resort San Alfonso del Mar has just been consecrated by the Guinness Book as the world's largest swimming pool.

A Chilean biochemist named Fernando Fischmann of Crystal Lagoons designed the pool utilizing a technology that recycles seawater to keep it clean. The chemicals traditionally used in maintaining pools are drastically cut back in this pool.

[Sigfrido Grimau, Resort Administrator]:"It consists of certain products and components that are ecologically compatible. It uses an amount of product 100 times lower than traditional pools."Grimau added that the project in Chile has helped draw attention to the company, which is negotiating with Argentina, Panama and Dubai to build similar pools.

Some might question the logic of putting such a pool next to the ocean. Chile's beaches are notoriously dangerous, with rough waves and strong rip currents.

Ching Ming (QingMing)

Went with a couple of my brothers this morning on this annual ritual.

Took some pictures but upon review, they were uninteresting. No surprise here, I guess.

Check on wikipedia but the information were also uninteresting.

Pictures on the web on this festival were uninteresting as well.

Then, when I was fooling around with what's on YouTube, I found this short, sweet and pleasant kiss scene on Liv Tyler and Kate Hudson. A bit more interesting.

Of course, you knew pretty Liv Tyler (Armageddon) is the daughter of rocker Steven Tyler (Aerosmith)

Prettiest face Kate Hudson is the daughter of Goldie Hawn.

www.BuyCanonInMalaysia.com

.
.

A couple of colleagues and I started the buycanoninmalaysia.com project a little while ago and we are now ready to roll out this yet raw rudimentary facility. A beta version.

We were imagining that original/genuine Canon ink and toner cartridges may not be easily available in sufficient enough places. The sheer number of models in the range and ink expiry issues meant that if they are not fast moving, an outlet will not stock in sufficient range and numbers to be of practical use to Canon hardware users everywhere.

Purchasing over the Internet may be the answer.

Another issue will be fair price. Outside all main commercial areas, prices can be pretty steep.

Yet another is the risk of buying a counterfeit product unknowingly and suffer the consequences.

I would imagine that if you are a doctor, lawyer, interior designer, accountant or someone running a SME business in the likes of Bukit Gantang, Bukit Selambau, Batang Ai, or even outskirts of major cities, you may have problems in obtaining original/genuine Canon ink/toner cartridges conveniently and at good and fair prices. SME's in the cities even may find this facility giving them peace of mind.

Well, please visit

and give me your feedbacks on what do you think.

Thanks.

Correction. A lawyer, I sure am not.

In the preceding post, I must have wrongly given the impression that I know more than I actually do.

After having read my own post a while ago, I realize something is not right. I've checked on a few more definitions of murder and nowhere is it found that motive has to be an integral part of this crime.

Please accept my apologies.

Cops Azilah and Sirul to hang
By M. MAGESWARI

Police Special Action Force (UTK) officers C/Insp Azilah Hadri and Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar were ordered to be sent to the gallows by the High Court here yesterday for the murder of Mongolian translator Altantuya Shaariibuu, concluding one to the country's high-profile trials.

Friday April 10, 2009
Karpal: Motive for murder remains unclear

THE suspect or suspects as well as the motive for the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu remain unclear, said lawyer for the Shaariibuu family Karpal Singh.

“I think it is important to establish the motive.

“What motive did the two have? They didn’t even know this woman,” he told reporters yesterday after C/Insp Azilah Hadri, 32, and Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar, 36, were sentenced to death by the High Court.

He said the person who had the motive to kill Altantuya should be implicated and convicted with the two Special Action Force (UTK) officers.

“I think the Mongolian government and Dr Shaariibuu (Setev, Altantuya’s father) will not be satisfied,” he added.

The full text of both excerpts I took are available, naturally in The Star today.

A lawyer I ain't. I did not even take law in my A Levels (those days, it was Higher School Certificate). But does not Karpal Singh make sense? Without establishing a motive, how can a murder take place? It would not be a murder otherwise. Somebody can be killed. But it would not be murder. Can somebody enlighten me out on this?

Definitions of murder on the Web:
*kill intentionally and with premeditation; "The mafia boss ordered his enemies murdered"
*mangle: alter so as to make unrecognizable; "The tourists murdered the French language"
*unlawful premeditated killing of a human being by a human being

"The mafia boss ordered his enemies murdered" Who is the mafia boss in this case of the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu?

Heard from Noraini that you have started a blog, and a an ex CMMSB virtual community.

So here I am, writing to seek answer on how to become A part of this community.

So hope to hear from you soon,
Many Thanks,

Best Regards to you.

And so, I replied Choong Sum.

Hi Choong Sum (Sam)

So good to hear from you.

Of course I remember you. You are the smart handsome one who married Gwendolyn Mak. I remembered once during a Canon function when both of you came wearing similar color outfits.

You wrote to me using the canonmalaysians.com address. You could have visited my blogsite already. Anyway the blog is sited at
www.canonmalaysians.com. Please visit me now and then, and hope you do not get bored too badly.

The blog will also link you to a my photobucket account where there are hundreds of photos of people you know. If you have older photos featuring you and the canon colleagues, plse send them to me for uploading. If your photos are analogs, I shall scan them. If they are digitised already, then you can use
www.drop.io my account. Or you can too send by attachments, or in a thumbdrive, a cdr, etc. I think about 30 photos would be a good number.

The blog also will link you to a registry where you can contact long lost previous colleagues. Your name is in there already now.

If you too maintain a facebook account, then Patricia Lee has a Canon group that you may want to join. Not much actions there yet though.

We can do lunch or have a drink one evening if you have the time. Gwen too. Incidentally, I shall be having a drink with Malani this friday. Care to join? We have not fixed the place yet.

Can I have a current picture of you soonest, if you are okay with it?

Cheers
stanley

Last Friday, we managed to catch up. You see, I was scheduled to meet up with Malani Cumarasamy on an issue. I invited Choong Sum to join us and he did. Choong Sum is now with Panasonic. Johnnie Tan is also there, in case you don't know. Do you remember Germaine, Johnnie's wife? The one with the loud sounding high heels shoes? klok, klok, klok, klok, klok.

Another photo?
