Support Wikipeda

Presently, there are 3 facilities on the Internet that I am indebted to. They are Google, Wikipedia and YouTube. It is strange if I do not use 1, 2 or all of them on a daily basis.

Together they provide me with 2 of the most important things in my life currently, namely information and entertainment.

Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge.

— Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia

Today I came across an appeal by Jimmy Wales of which I would like to share with you.

An appeal from Wikipedia founder, Jimmy Wales

Dear Reader,

Today I am going to ask you to support Wikipedia with a donation. This might sound unusual: Why does one of the world's five most popular web properties ask for financial support from its users?

Wikipedia is built differently from almost every other top 50 website. We have a small number of paid staff, just twenty-three. Wikipedia content is free to use by anyone for any purpose. Our annual expenses are less than six million dollars. Wikipedia is run by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, which I founded in 2003.

At its core, Wikipedia is driven by a global community of more than 150,000 volunteers - all dedicated to sharing knowledge freely. Over almost eight years, these volunteers have contributed more than 11 million articles in 265 languages. More than 275 million people come to our website every month to access information, free of charge and free of advertising.

But Wikipedia is more than a website. We share a common cause: Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's our commitment.

Your donation helps us in several ways. Most importantly, you will help us cover the increasing cost of managing global traffic to one of the most popular websites on the Internet. Funds also help us improve the software that runs Wikipedia -- making it easier to search, easier to read, and easier to write for. We are committed to growing the free knowledge movement world-wide, by recruiting new volunteers, and building strategic partnerships with institutions of culture and learning.

Wikipedia is different. It's the largest encyclopedia in history, written by volunteers. Like a national park or a school, we don't believe advertising should have a place in Wikipedia. We want to keep it free and strong, but we need the support of thousands of people like you.

I invite you to join us: Your donation will help keep Wikipedia free for the whole world.

Thank you,

Jimmy Wales

A somewhat Delighful Cruise ....... a bit more

.

This picture here is an archive picture of Edwin Eng of ECS Astar taken a few months ago.

Edwin was on the cruise trip and I mentioned him.

However, last night I couldn't sleep because I failed to mentioned quite a few people on the cruise as well, who spoke to me, smiled at me, laughed with me and generally shared space with me aboard this ship Libra full of people and full of food.

Representing Compugates was Mable Foo with her two children. I saw that they love to swim and Mable was always vigilant by the side of the pool watching, fully dressed.

Thomas Hwang's father went as well and was always smiling whenever our eyes met. I think we have this older people bond. With Edwin Eng, we have Jennifer and Hwee Peng from ECS Astar as well. I mentioned Fan and Celyn, the cigarette waving 'in the ayer' girl. Very attractive pair, this two girls. I discovered that Celyn's Chinese name was Ng Chui Lian when she went up to claim a lucky draw. From then on, I started calling her Ah Lian and promptly 20 other people followed. I think she will be known by this name for a couple of years, at least.

On board, we had CJ and the terribly handsome Luen from Digital World. Ah Luen can drink quite a fair bit. Quite a party animal too.

I met up with Cindy again. She was formerly in my team in Canon some years ago. Currently she has married into the Pacific Office family and went on a Pacific Office ticket. She had in tow a child. She was extremely active and I see her everywhere.

I spoke to the girl from BMC (still cannot remember her name). She informed me that BMC is not much of a gay outfit nowadays and is more mixed, if you will.

And yes, Eric Ooi and his wife Patricia from Vision Media Supplies Penang were with us on this trip. Ever so gracious and humble, this multi-millioneric couple.

There, I am going to sleep already.

A somewhat Delightful Cruise

So this is how I look like to somebody behind me.

I like it. Looks better than the front angle.

So, where was I going?

Canon delighted us again with a cruise from Port Kelang to Penang and then Singapore and then back to PK. All in, it took 3 days and nights, leaving on a Thursday afternoon and was back by Sunday morning.

Which ship?

It was the Libra. It was not the largest. Virgo was. This one has between 1000 to 1500 people on board to keep you company.

This incentive program was organized by Canon Consumer Imaging and Information Division to delight resellers who can obtained a ticket every time they buy in a certain value of printer ink and toner cartridges.

Who did I go with?

I went with my relatives. From left you have Jeremy, Swit, Irene and Jeradyne.

So what company did I have when I want to drink in the evening.

Thomas Hwang from Comsat Media went as well. I was happy to see Edwin Eng of ECS Astar on board too.

And "How was the trip?"
Well, it has got its ups and downs. No, the ship did not go up and then down below the waves, TGIF! Thank God It Floats!
.
There was a screw up in our accommodation arrangements We needed one double and a threesome. Our tickets showed initially that we were like torn apart. Lucky thing Jeffrey Kung stepped in with another attractive girl from BMC to save the day. TGIG, Thank God Issues Gowtim. Credit too to another girl Rosanna representing Star Cruise.
.
I noticed another case like us. I think that guy is called Michael from FotoFlash with a party of seven.
.
Food. What can I say. Lots and Lots and Lots and Lots of It. People keep eating and eating and eating all day long. You have breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper till 2am. Feeding our faces almost seemed seamless, flowing from one meal to another. TGIH! Thank God It's Hover! (just ignore the H).
.
Time ashore. We had like 2 hours in Penang and 1 hour in Singapore. What is there to do? Feed our faces again with Penang chow kwai teow, Penang laksa, Penang gor chap and walk around the nearby shopping mall Vivo in Singapore.
.
Time aboard. We did not join the activities organized for no valid reasons. They have Bingo, Dance lessons, Yoga lessons, Family games, etc. I was chased out of the Casino as Jeradyne was too young and looked that way.
.
There was a song show by a couple of African American. The man was reputed to have composed and performed the song "You make me feel brand new" when he was with the Stylistics. it would not have been such a let down if I have not expected so much basing on his credentials.
.
There was another dance show, first FOC for non-paying patrons. After that, they dance again for the second time for fee paying customers topless. I was not there.
.
Did I enjoy the cruise?
.
Yah! Two nights, we were at the disco, Boomer's, I think. I did not dance of course. But watching Celyn was worth the time. Celyn from Ingram Micro was doing her thang. Shaking her booty with always a cigarette waving "in the Ayer". Celyn has a good looking friend accompanying called Fan. I became a fan of Fan.
.
Jeffrey Kung and Stephanie were good hosts and I look forward to be delighted again.

Merry Christmas ....... again

Band Aid were a British and Irish charity supergroup, founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in order to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia by releasing the record "Do They Know It's Christmas?" for the Christmas market. The single surpassed the hopes of the producers to become the Christmas number one on that release.

The record was released on 29 November, and went straight to No. 1 in the UK singles chart, outselling all the other records in the chart put together. It became the fastest- selling single of all time in the UK, selling a million copies in the first week alone. It stayed at No. 1 for five weeks, selling over three million copies and becoming easily the biggest-selling single of all time in the UK. It has since been surpassed by Elton John's "Candle In The Wind 1997" (his tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales) but it is likely to keep selling in different versions for many years to come.

So where were you in 1984?

I was already in Canon under first Guthrie Trading Sdn Bhd and then Mulpha Trading Sdn Bhd for almost ten years! I wonder what happened to the music cassette I bought then.

See how many of the performers can you recognise. Remember they are all now 24 years older.

The original Band Aid ensemble consisted of (in sleeve order):

Freddie Mercury (Queen)
Phil Collins (Genesis)
Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats)
Steve Norman (Spandau Ballet)
Chris Cross (Ultravox)
John Taylor (Duran Duran)
Paul Young
Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet)
Glenn Gregory (Heaven 17)
Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran)
Simon Crowe (The Boomtown Rats)
Marilyn
Keren Woodward (Bananarama)
Martin Kemp (Spandau Ballet)
Jody Watley (Shalamar)
Bono (U2)
Adam Clayton (U2)
Paul Weller (The Style Council, and previously The Jam)
James "J.T." Taylor (Kool & The Gang)
George Michael (Wham!)
Midge Ure (Ultravox)
Martyn Ware (Heaven 17)
John Keeble (Spandau Ballet)
Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet)
Roger Taylor (Duran Duran)
Sara Dallin (Bananarama)
Siobhan Fahey (Bananarama)
Sting (The Police)
Pete Briquette (The Boomtown Rats)
Francis Rossi (Status Quo)
Robert 'Kool' Bell (Kool & The Gang)
Dennis Thomas (Kool & The Gang)
Andy Taylor (Duran Duran)
Jon Moss (Culture Club, former member of Adam and the Ants)
Rick Parfitt (Status Quo)
Nick Rhodes (Duran Duran)
Johnny Fingers (The Boomtown Rats)
David Bowie (who contributed via a recording that was mailed to Geldof and then dubbed onto the single)
Boy George (Culture Club)
Holly Johnson (Frankie Goes to Hollywood)
Paul McCartney (Wings and The Beatles, who contributed via a recording that was mailed to Geldof and then dubbed onto the single)
Stuart Adamson (Big Country)
Bruce Watson (Big Country)
Tony Butler (Big Country)
Mark Brzezicki (Big Country)

Can you spot the young Sting? He was then referred to in the United Kingdom as God, much like Eric Clapton earlier.

.
Sting was Rick Low's idol in the 80's.

Tropic Thunder ..... again.

I am not giving up yet.

If you have read my preceding post, you would be awared of me saying that youtube has taken off all the juicy stuff that were uploaded by fans. Copyrights infringements probably.

Peter Chow encouraged me to try Metacafe. I did. The original clips I wanted were also not there. Same issues probably.

However I found this one. Not my favorite scene. Though a damn good one. I've downloaded it and then re-uploaded it here for you. (Just in case, it might be taken out as well. 13.2 MB is not too big.)

For those who have not seen this awesome movie, the bald headed guy with a tummy and huge arms is Tom Cruise. The curly haired person is Mathew McConaughey and in the last part of the clip, the sandy haired one is Ben Stiller.

The sound on this video clip is a little soft. Do not be shy to turn up the volume to listen to the dialogue. The music was Flo Rida of course. The song was Low, of course.

Once again, go buy a DVD and watch this movie 4 times. You will discover fresh stuff every time you watch.

Hey, watch this one as well. This is supposedly the best scene when Tom Cruise did a dance as well at the end of the movie. This clip was cut short though. Nonetheless, Tom Cruise was 'something else', to use a term that Lim Kok Hin would. The song once again was of course Get Back! by Ludacris.

"Get Back! Motherfucker You don't know me like that".

Tropic Thunder

This has got to be the greatest comedy movie of the year. In fact this may be the greatest comedy movie ever.

You have more comedy here than 20 other good comedy movies put together.

Starred in and directed by Ben Stiller, here we also have Jack Black, the incredible Robert Downy Jr, Nick Nolte, Mathew McConaughey. Appearing supposedly cameo was the phenomenally magnificent Tom Cruise.

Ten days ago, I found so many video clips on youtube that I wanted to show you. Incredible performances by Robert Downey Jr as an African American and Tom Cruise as a portly bald headed guy dancing to Ludacris 'Get Back'.

"Get Back! Motherfucker You don't know me like that". I am now officially a big fan of Tom Cruise.

And damn! damn! damn! all the clips were taken out with youtube citing copyright infringements. Damn! damn! damn!

My recommendation now is for you to go out and buy the DVD. Original or pirate, you go check how much money you have in your wallet and decide.

This is very important. You need to have the DVD for various reasons.

1. The uncensored version is 2 hours whilst you will be cheated of like 30 minutes if you go to the cinema.

2. You need to own the DVD as you need to watch the movie at least 2 times. Go watch 3, 4 times or more. Remember that I said, this comedy action movie has more laughs than 19 other good comedy movies put together.

3. You need to hear them speak rough and crude as intended for full appreciation. Kids less than 10 years old should first be put away to sleep. (Don't kill them! Just get them to sleep.)

Back in the High Life Again

Ayam Back!, to borrow from Samy Vellu.

A while ago, I reported that the Canon Penang office has moved. I posted a picture of the new office that I obtained from the Canon website. Somebody mentioned that it was a wrong picture. "You can still see the MAA logo, very obvious lah."

So I went to Penang to have a look myself. This dude anonymous was absolutely correct. I took some photos.

This is the office I went to.

Opposite is this Oldtile place.

Can see the brand or not?

Up and

Down the road.

So, once again, if you are picking up Patrick Thum for a drink at 3pm; this is the right place.
.
I am back in the high life again, after a short hiatus.
.
Steve Winwood was and is a very respected musician formerly with The Spencer Davies Group, then Traffic and then later formed the first SuperGroup with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker named Blind Faith. Their first gig live was a free show in Hyde Park, London performing for 100,000 people in 1969.
.
He reappeared strongly in 1986 with a solo album and this is the first hit song from that album "Back in the High Life Again".

Rosie Goh

On this post, you will find a photo of Rosie Goh. Not many people who come to this blog will know who she is.

Actually, she was immensely popular in days of yore. However, people who fell in love with her and would be interested to know how she is doing do not usually read blogs, have an account in facebook nor do they follow the exciting life of Frances Yip, who went to Cameron Highlands recently. Frances can show you proof that she went there by showing you 476 photos taken.

Rosie Goh was my sort of official photograher when I got married in 19... . At that time, she was one of the two girls manning our showroom then in Wisma MPI along Jln Raja Chulan. Used to be our meeting place after work before we scoot off for dinner in Imbi Square and then off to Red Rooster in Medan Tuanku Abdul Rahman for a couple of drinks to get high. I can't remember if we too experimented with 'joints' as well.

Active participants then include William Augustin, Jimmy Choong, Farouk Sultan, Rosie Goh, Linda Ang and Melinda from Rolex next door.

"Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our .... "

So, towards the end of last week, Rosie Goh, Shereen Phua, KC Han and myself met up with God, Liew Sip Chon. Being not so easily satiated this lot, we asked for more than our daily bread. Hence we went to The Bavarian Bierhaus, a German pub plus eatery at The Curve.

We fed our faces with the soups, Caesar's (?) salad, pasta, pork knuckles, and the famed german sausages. Some of us had the dark German beer as well. (forgot the brand name.) Excellent.

If you have been coming here to visit at least occassionally, you would recognise Shereen Phua, the one with a Singapore land size project in Chengdu, China. Also KC Han and of course everybody knows God.

The other one would be Rosie Goh.

Comfortably Numb

Pink Floyd used to lug along 7 tons of equipment when they tour in the 60's and 70's. I've just read that that the musical Mamma Mia take along, what, 20tons!

I have seen quite a few of Pink Floyd's live acts doing Comfortably Numb where the guitar solo was reputed to be the best of all time.

I agree.

This impressive video is my favorite featuring of course David Gilmour on his Fender.

My apologies if you do not like this kind of music.

You may also remember The Wall by Pink Floyd, Live in Berlin in 1990 shortly after the dividing wall was torn down uniting East and West Germany.

'Happy Birthday' Wong Choon Heng

On this day, his birthday; he had a post done yesterday to tell you a picture story.

Best to go with the song he recommended.

Go here.

The Shoes were size 10

This happened yesterday.

From what I can see, it was close. If President Bush was looking at Iraqi PM Nouri Maliki when the first shoe was thrown, I am sure it would have hit him in the face.

I am imagining that if his face should catch the shoe, then President Bush shall forever be remembered as the President whose face caught an Iraqi shoe.

Peter the Great

You know Peter 1 the Great born 1672 ruled Russia and later the Russian Empire at one time. Actually he started ruling together with his sickly half brother Ivan V when he was only ten years old.

Really his mother Sophia was ruling when Peter was young sitting behind the dual throne. The throne has a large hole cut out, you know like your wife telling you how to drive while sitting at the back of the car.

This guy is a tall fellow being 6'8". He died in 1725 at the age of 52.

To cut the long story short. Peter inherited an uneducated, untrained, uncivilized and superstitious country that excluded itself from European society, economy, and politics. In large measure, Peter exchanged tradition in favor of modernization. Peter the Great prodded a relatively backwards Muscovy state into a modernized Russia that competed with other European powers.

.

.

.

.

.

Peter Chow is no lesser great. He took me to this Seremban Favorites restaurant for lunch a few days ago. Great!!

Talking to him, it was amazing to learn that this relatively young fellow (do not let his grey hair fool you) knows all the last time people. He knows Christie Low, Albert Leong and Garry Ng.

He was in Canon from 2002-2007. He came in impressing Lim Kok Hin who interviewed him. He wondered though at that time why Kok Hin keep speaking to him in Hokkien during the interview, after knowing he was from Penang as well. Well, Peter did not know that Kok Hin likes to have a lot of friends.

He was the Assistant Marketing Manager (BIS Division) in Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd initially with Lim Kok Hin and later worked on Jeremy Lee's watch.

Peter Chow is a computer expert starting his career as a computer programmer. Today he is busy ensuring Leonova monitors achieve major market shares in the Asia Pacific Region.

This guy has a tremendous amount of friends (check his facebook account), a fierce computer gamer and knows all the good places to go to for lunch.

Love Guru and XXX

I watched two movies recently. Love Guru on DVD and XXX again on Astro.

There was a scene where Jessica Alba did a Bollywood. This was my favorite scene in Love Guru. Here goes ..

On XXX, my favorite scene was when Vin Diesel kissed Asia Argento for the first time, and after the kiss, she said something like "Did you enjoy that?" He said yes. Then "Good, because you will never have that again". or something like that.

Well, I can't find a clip of that scene. The one they have on youtube stopped short of the clever one-liner comment by Asia Argento.

Whilst looking for that kiss scene, I came across this one on X-Files, Fight the Future. In the movie, Mulder was interruped by a bee sting on Scully just before the kiss. In this one .... .. see for yourself?

(You'll need some patience.)

'Char Siew' at Seremban Favorites

You may remember that recently I posted up some photos I received showing some awesome food especially the 'char siew'. I mentioned in that post then that I will buy lunch if somebody were to bring me to that awesome place.

Well, one kind soul responded and we went merrily to the place for lunch yesterday.

.
.
My photos aren't as good as those that I received and posted earlier. What to do; Canon hasn't come out with a camera phone yet. So meantime, I would have to make do with my Samsung as I refuse to carry a phone and a camera in my pants pockets. Can sometimes give people the wrong ideas on the unnatural bulges.
.
The handsome bloke in the last picture is Wan Heng Yuen, an old friend I bumped into there.
.
This place is owned by William all right. Except that our William Liang is more handsome. I understand now that this place is known to be patronized by many Canon people. Siew Ho, Dik Hong, Pearly etc.

We ordered some stuff. They brought the soup siu kow instead of the fried ones. We had that changed. We wanted meatballs and they brought fish balls. We made do with this one.
.
The char siew was a mite too fat for my liking. We did ordered pun fai sow though. The taste was excellent with the edges just burnt enough. The fried siu kow was excellent too. Could be the best I have tasted. The fish balls were so-so. Anyway I prefer meat balls any time.
.
The Hakka mee was really good. Not wet and really crunchy, with some minced meat to go with it.
.
Yes, I would recommend this place for non-halal food and I would go back there again.
.
Who took me there?
.
Revelation next post.
.
Will keep you posted. (can't resist this one).

We are not Unique!!

Silly things too happen in the United States of America.

This 52 years old motherfather Governor Blagojevich is so corrupt and greedy. He wants to appoint a new Senator into the vacated Obama seat for money! Smells suspiciously like money politics to me. A bit of the story from MSN News today.

CHICAGO - His career in shreds, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich clung defiantly to power Wednesday, ignoring a call to step down from President-elect Barack Obama and a warning that Senate Democrats will not let him appoint a new senator from the state.

"Everyone is calling for his head," said Barbara Flynn Currie, a leader in the Illinois Senate and, like the governor, a Democrat.

One day after Blagojevich's arrest, fellow Illinois politicians sought to avoid the taint of scandal-by-association.

He said, "I've got this thing and it's (expletive) golden," ... "and : I'm not just giving it up for (expletive) nothing"

And then ......

SANTIAGO, Chile – Madonna is causing "crazy enthusiasm" and "impure thoughts" on her first concert visit to Chile, a prominent retired cardinal complained on Wednesday, as he paused in a tribute to a late dictator to denounce the pop star.

Roman Catholic Cardinal Jorge Medina criticized the flamboyant singer during his homily at a Mass in honor of the late dictator Augusto Pinochet, who oversaw the deaths of some 3,200 dissidents during his 1973-1990 rule.

"This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner, she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts," said Medina, the cardinal who was chosen to announce the election of Pope Benedict XVI.

I suppose we would need a fatwa or edict here.

I Don't Believe This

I was having a drink (usual lah) with Thomas Hwang and Chong Shean Nam last evening in Black Hole Sri Hartamas. (what a name!)

It was my first time there and the place was nice, the company was nice. The beer was RM75.00 net per 2 jugs. Okay .. the price was not too bad.

But, a Beer is Better than a Woman?

I Don't Believe This!!

Riz Khan and Mahathir - Dec 04, 2008

You could have caught the interview done last week. Or you could already have watched it on Youtube. If not, here I have the two parts nicely uploaded for your viewing pleasure.

.. .. You're welcome.

When I was a little younger, I used to listen in awe to all the clever things Mahathir said. Things like "being backward is not a privilege". "We need a strong government to be able to implement beneficial though not very popular programs" (or something like that). "if money can be moved freely across nations, then nations should also allow people to move freely across them" (again or something like that). He too mentioned that there should not be total free trade between countries with absolutely no trade protection. He liken this with the game of golf where a handicap system ensure fairer play. (NEP?)

I am not so impressed with him anymore.

First, I think he is a bully. Second, I think he is not a fair minded person. Third, I think he is a megalomaniac. And lastly, listening to him of late gives me the impression that he is not at all sincere.

Just my thoughts!

Hari Raya Aidiladha

Apart from Aidilfitri, the festival most grandly celebrated by Muslims the world over is Aidiladha. In Malaysia, it is more commonly known as Hari Raya Korban or Hari Raya Haji and a public holiday is observed.

Celebrated about two months after Aidilfitri, on the 10th day of Zulhijah, the 12th month of the Muslim calendar, it marks the end of the haj pilgrimage period (about two weeks); hence the name Hari Raya Haji (festival of the pilgrimage).

Every year millions of Muslims make the journey to the Holy Land of Mecca in Saudi Arabia to perform the haj, a requirement in Islam as it makes up one of the five tenets of the religion. As long as they have the means to do so, and are able health-wise, Muslims must perform the haj at least once in life. Upon completion of the haj, the men earn the title of "haji" and the women, "hajjah".

Selamat Hari Raya Haji to all my Muslim friends.

And to the others, some happy pictures?

Trajedy in Bukit Antarabangsa

I do not know the victims nor their families.

But I could have.

Bad things have been happening to innocent people since time immemorial. Of course bad things too happen to the not so innocent; but ain't that's what it should be?

Regardless of how you can explain these things away, rationally or via faiths; nonetheless it is still so sad.

Not in Seremban

I received these mouth watering pictorials by email the other day.

I wish somebody would bring me there. I will buy lunch. Any takers?

Click on the pictures to enlarge. Especially the 3rd and 4th ones.

There was actually an accompanying map. But I am still blur as I am not familiar with that area.

A Few Good Men

This movie came out in 1992 main starring the people you see on this picture.

It tells the story of military lawyers at a court-martial who uncover a high-level conspiracy in the course of defending their clients, United States Marines accused of murder.

It was nominated for 4 Oscars.

Far fetched as it may be, I can see some similarities closer to home.

You may have missed the Riz Khan interview with our few good men, Raja Petra Kamarudin and playwrights Kee Thuan Chye and Jo Kukhatas. In case you are too lazy to search, here I have for you the full 20 minutes interview in 2 parts.

Now I know how Jo Kukhatas looks like.

In the interview, Raja Petra said that he is neither aligned to Pakatan Rakyat nor Barison Nasional. He represent Barison Rakyat. What a clever name.

He said he has no political ambition and prefer to act as a watch dog to expose injustice and excesses of governments. When Pakatan Rakyat takes over the Government, he may be on the other side representing UMNO to ensure check and balances on the ruling coalition.

How noble. Like quite a number of people who believe in an individual, a cause or a God because they want to believe, I too want to believe in people like Raja Petra, Haris Ibrahim, Lim Eng Guan and the like.

Joe Wong at Mulpha Gathering

Two days after the feast in Andrew Kong's place where we celebrated with him his coming of age, the big five O, I attended the Mulpha old folks gathering.

You know Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd came into existence in 1987. Prior to that, the marketing and distribution of Canon products and services were done by Mulpha Trading (M) Sdn Bhd. This company was a subsidiary of the Multi-Purpose Holdings Group.

Mulpha had many divisions then, the Canon Division being one of them. They too had the Consumer Goods Division, the Liquor Division, the Building Materials Division etc. Brands include Canon, Kanebo, Livita, Maltose, Vat 69, Baron Otard, Kjeldsons Butter Cookies, Kit Kat etc.

So, representing the old folks, Weng Kai organized a get together for the survivors in the Tavern, Guiness Anchor Bhd in Subang Sungeiway.

Again, it was free food and free flow.

I did not intend to attend. A series of phone calls from Joe Wong, a CanonMalaysian changed my mind.

I met up, after so many years with Dennis and Loh and Rowena and many others of whom I have faint memories of their names. I spotted serious drinker John Choong and the slow talking Foong Kum Soon.

CanonMalaysians who attended include Joe Wong, Steven Wong, Patrick Yee and Christie Low. The food was good and the drinks excellent. I took several glasses of Kilkenny and it was thoroughly enjoyable. Accompanying the glasses of Kilkenny was the roast lamb Patrick insisted that we should consume as well.

A bit of some trivial information here.

Kilkenny is an Irish cream ale which originated in Kilkenny, Ireland. Ingredients: water, malted barley, roasted malted barley, hops, and yeast.

I was lazy to take photos save for this one of Joe Wong, again another shy one.

The one besides him was Steven Wong, the Division Manager of Canon Division in Mulpha and later the General Manager of Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd.

Joe Wong joined us in Mulpha Trading Sdn Bhd after coming back from Montreal Canada. Later the whole bunch of the gangsters from Montreal joined us in Canon. They were Jeremy Lee, Peter Chin, Rick Low, Ricky Yip, Harry, Paul Chin, maybe a couple more. Some of these fellows are now big time people in the industries they are in.

Joe Wong came with somebody I have not seen for like 20 years. He is called Jeet and like 20,000 other bayis in this country, he speaks Cantonese and has a Chinese Malaysian girlfriend.

A photo from the archives.

Joe Wong was the one on the far right with his cigaretteinthemouth signature look. The rest of the fellows, I don't recognise.
