Yes, the four mentioned persons and me had dinner in this place called Lan Kwai Fong. Part 1 was the story on NS Tan and KC Han. Read here.
Shereen Phua is married to Ralph Tay, another CanonMalaysian and together they have four sons. So, officially she is off the market. She was our Facsimile super salesperson and Ralph was in charge of our EDP Dept. Absolutely no special reasons for them to crave for each other but they did. The most famous rumor was that they were doing stuff to each other one day in the office at night when the guard caught them off guard. Our office was then in Jalan Semangat PJ. Shereen denied this of course saying that they were only talking. (Aiya, talking why need to be caught? Also, talk until so late meh? Also talk can be in coffee shop, shopping mall mah, why alone together still in office after everybody go home?)
Ralph currently is running a company called One-Technoniche, a distributor for Samsung.
Shereen is big time. Over the last 3 months, she spent about 80% of her time in Chengdu, China running a development company building buildings. Hotels, Housing, Recreation Areas etc. This project covers a land area about the size of Singapore Island. See, I told you, she is Big Time. (capitals B and T). She is now so used to making big bucks. Talking to her that evening made me feel so inadequate. She said to me and Liew Sip Chon "Come over to China lah, look around, I tell you, in a year you can make a million. Arrange for your own flight to Chengdu and I will take care of everything else. What you want? You tell me?. Come lah in October. Let me know? Hey, you coming or not?"
Tempting, tempting.
I can't tell if Liew was impressed. Nowadays, it is difficult to know what is he thinking. "Shereen, that's the place where they have the Pandas, right?" he asked. He could be interested. Maybe.
The only thing we know for sure what Liew think about is that performance in all Divisions in Canon is not good enough. Difficult to please God. What to do?
Actually, I've already known that Liew will become God when he came for the interview in Canon conducted by Michael Kuan in the early (eighties?). Michael Kuan told us that Liew mentioned in the interview that he can put us (Simon Tay, Peter Chong and me) in his pockets. Liew was then the top salesperson in Olivetti selling Electronic Typewriters. Of course, he knew then that Canon is certainly a much better brand and wanted to jump ship like the 31 Barison MPs now.
No regrets for him, I am sure.
Old picture. Shereen is the one in yellow.
Old picture. Can you spot Liew?
