As expected, the event was well organized, with great food and great music. It has its share of business achievements presentations, resellers and wholesalers awards presentations and lucky draws.
But really, what's interesting for readers here were the 3 people I met and 2 that I saw.
Yan Yoke Ping. Country General Manager of Imaging and Printing Group.
This is a man of whom it is almost impossible to find not immaculately dressed. He is a CanonMalaysian who was with us on Liew Sip Chon's watch when he was doing Canon Electronic Typewriters. He was well known then for the management of the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation account.
While everybody else was carrying by hands typewriters then to do product demonstrations in prospects' premises, Yan was using trolleys much like the airline pilots, stewards and stewardesses. Innovative!
His attire can never be found creased. Hence running around won't do. Rumors has it that nobody has ever seen Yan run! If he is in a real hurry, he will be walking fast.
I asked him last Thursday. "Yan, you know, every other month or so, somebody is bound to ask me if you are married. How?" He just laughed. So the mystery remains.
Danny Lee. Country General Manager. Personal Systems Group.
If I understand it correctly, together Yan Yoke Ping and Danny Lee are responsible for the whole 'works' in this country; sales, marketing and distribution.
You would have guess it right if you guess Danny Lee is a CanonMalaysian too. Yes, he joined Canon to do sales on Canon printers. Lucky thing for him too as he met his wife Lanny Pan in Canon. Otherwise, he may have to marry somebody else like ... maybe Amber Chia or something.
Really, I do not know much about this handsome bloke as I have never done Canon printers.
Eric Er. Honestly I do not know his position in HP. This CanonMalaysian is in charge of the all important multi-function printers in HP currently. This area of business is considered to be extremely important in view of meter/click charges strategies. This should constitute to have a tremendous impact into the toner cartridges business in the mid term.
I do not need to post a picture of Eric Er as he is more popular than Daniel Wu in our industry. I did an interview on him some time back. Read here.
Andrew Lee. General Manager, Procurement & Deployment Services Indirect, Malaysia. JOS Distribution (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
Another CanonMalaysian.
On the JOS webpage, it says:
Mr Lee has the two-fold task of steering the marketing, product management, procurement and sales teams, as well as overseeing the logistics and warehouse facilities, for the Group's indirect distribution business in Malaysia.
Gee, quite a mouthful! Andrew Lee likes the same 'yong tau foo' place in Pudu as I. Although I saw him at the Dinner, he was rather far from my place and we did not get to speak to each other.
Gwendolyn Mak. This CanonMalaysian is holding a senior position in Hewlett-Packard. However I misplaced her card. At the Dinner, she was sitting with the people from Ingram Micro and I did not have the opportunity to say hello to her.
She was previously in my team in Canon as a Customer Relations Executive. This very pretty girl married another CanonMalaysian Choong Sum who has since joined Panasonic.
