During the cocktail hour before dinner, I was talking to Angie Yim and her companion when Goh Kheng Peow came over to shake my hand and wish me gong xi fa cai. Wonder where he learnt this wonderful way to greet people.
Goh Kheng Peow would be a perfect role model for all young people to make it big time in a short period of time. I do not know a lot of top people, but still Goh Kheng Peow is the only one I knew who took his company Compugates and public listed it in a record 5 years. He could have done it sooner if not for the fact that a minimum 5 years is required.
I do not have a recent picture of him but his face looked exactly like this, the one rightmost. I suspect the body as well, as no apparent weight gain was noticable.
Angie Yim was once upon a time the Marketing Executive for Larry Poon. Larry Poon came over from Rank Xerox to join us heading the copier department. See, people from Xerox coming over to join Canon is nothing new. Ask Richard Yeow.
The first time I have ever come across a most professional written Marketing Plan was the one done by Angie Yim. I was so incredibly impressed. Then, I thought it not possible to come up with such quality work. Angie has moved on since.
Today she runs a very successful specialty publishing company in Damansara Jaya. Once in a while many years ago, she used to drop by into my pub "Crazy Larry's" situated behind her place.
Recently I heard she got tired of eating lower standard food and has opened up a restaurent below her office called 'wok' something or something 'wok'. Competent, Successful and Enterprising. With such qualities, the lady can't be good looking as well, right? Hah, see for yourself on this photo I took that day. Angie is the one on the left.
After numerous gossips about so many people behind their backs, we parted. Yes, she asked about Christie Low. I wondered why he was not around too as Christie almost never missed a Canon function.
Tan Chiong Kee was my schoolmate/classmate in Methodist Boys' School, Kuala Lumpur. He joined Canon a long time ago (naturally) and was at one time supposed to be promoted to take charge of the Penang branch. Nonetheless, his company DeMarcus Communications is now a Canon authorised reseller/service provider or ISP or something in Batu Pahat. His two daughters are adults now, one in Scotland and another in Singapore. He looked pretty contented and so he should be. It was good to see him again after quite a few years. Here he comes. ..
This picture has a little bit of a blurry face as the camera on my phone has a rather slow focus feature.
